I remember a load I had to deliver at a warehouse in NC. I did not have a CB at the time. The guard would have you set in a staging area. Since no CB he gave me a pair of binoculars and I had to watch him and when he waved at me then I could move in to a door.

    Western flyer,
Did you also get rid of your television/pc: i.e. comcast, showtime, hbo, SAT TV, facebook, twitter (including all forms of social media) and last that xm/sirius radio (including android/iphone radio apps)? Well have you??

There is way to much hypocrisy of this sort; explaining away hypocritically, why they "will not own or ever use a cb radio again". The same one(s) who are driver trainers pushing mis-trained drivers out on the road(yes I made up a word!) yet in the same breath, have no problem with the fore mentioned media device.

Something as simple as the old cb radio can be used to help these "mis-trained" drivers correct their mistakes on the fly; and also show/teach them how to correct and help other drivers. As in all media forms, there will be the few bad (cb operators) mix in with the majority good (cb operators) drivers who exercise respect, compassion and show sympathy towards those drivers needing correction or help out here on the road.

    Speaking negatively (about cb radio) does nothing to address the now dangerous environment we find ourselves in while performing our jobs as Professional (we were/are trained) American Truck Drivers. Imagine driving 2:30am, 2 lane country road, some 3.5 miles ahead, you see a semi truck coming at you swerving, zig zagging and attempted corrective measures. The swerving, zig zagging and attempt to correct continues;
    a. Do you grab your cell phone and call the police
    b. Do you look for a clearance to pull over until the driver has past you by, OR
    c. Do you grab that good ole dependable cb microphone (praying the driver approaching has one and that it is turned on)
I need not have to continue this scenario!

Western flyer, we have a small window for margin of error in this Profession (yes I said it!): Every tool that we own has its individual usefulness and purpose including and especially the cb radio. Since 2004 (my very first cb radio purchase and best electronic purchase in my life to date and is the same radio that I still use, and while having taken a beating, still operates AND HAS LITERALLY SAVED ME IN TOO MANY SITUATIONS TO NAME!)

Now "Pilgrim", before you go get over sensitive and emotional on me (before you over zealously post/send your quick reply) please read the following article written by a ham radio operator some six (within the time frame you took your radio out) years ago. This article appeared in Monitoring Times Magazine (no longer in circulation) in August 2008.

Ixquick, Yahoo, Bing or Google search-

CITIZENS BAND at 50 Still Useful, Still Scorned by Ken Reitz KS4ZR

I keep copies of this article in my truck along with a few reputable cb shops across the country;and occasionally pass it out to the younger drivers I encounter who---- 1. had never heard of a cb radio nor its purpose or 2. those foreign drivers who have cb's fear using it because of the supposed backlash or limited English) and 3. those told they would never need a cb radio from their trainer.
    Also
Being a licensed ham radio operator, I am known to go out of my way advocating O.T.R. Drivers become licensed ham operators (at the very minimum, all OTR Drivers should know how to use a hand held 2meter/70cm radio, dual band 2m/70cm antenna, how to Autopatch and how to use repeaters. I also recommend using 2m/70cm hand held radios that have the APRS or dSTAR capabilities and join SKYWARN!

    And do aim high!
otherwise please excuse any misspellings and or grammar mistakes.

Scott72, as for the echo/ reverb
Just tell them to turn it back a little, I do! Otherwise it doesn't bother me at all, its just a part of the cb game. Funny how (and probably your favorite cb shop included), no one blames the cb shops or places like awolnoisetoys for their recommending drivers these echo boards.

Seeing how dangerous the road has become, yes, the cb should be on and on Ch 19; but I will go further by stating that channel 19 should not be the only monitoring channel. I advocate channels 03, 13, 23 and 33 all be used to give out emergency road information.

Highway Patrol/ D.O.T. should re-incorporate cb radios back into the force (and actively monitor Ch 09 again).

    do aimhigh!
