I just bought a Uniden Grant XL off ebay for $50 and the unit looks clean from the pics, but it came from an estate sale and I don't know if it's been hacked and clipped or stock. Anyone have any experience with this radio and if stock, should I just get it tuned and leave it alone or are there any decent mods that can be done by a good shop to get the most out of this radio? Never really messed around on ssb. Thanks in advance.
Anyone running a Uniden Grant XL?

Good ol radio. Usually have a really good receive. I would personally hook it up and run it. IF everything works, no need to mess with it. If not take it to a good tech and have it cleaned up, checked out, re aligned and off ya go

Does it do pretty good on am? I've always heard that ssb was it's strong point. Already have a good antenna and coax as well as an astatic 636

I have one that got new in 94. It still works great. It's the same radio as the old Cobra 148GTL. A very good talker on both AM and SSB. Peaked they will do about 16 watts. It can be Modded to go below channel #1 and above channel #40.

Nice rig, especially if it's one made in the Philippines. Arguably one of the best CB radios ever.

It should be in when I get home this weekend to try it out. Hard to pass up for $50 I think.

I'll give you your money back on it if you are not happy with it.
