If I wrote down the real information that matters to most truckers that I hear amatures throw around I would till have a blank page.

Less power is equal, both transcevers have to be on hills to matter. Wow to think I wasted all that money in the 70s & 80s building repeater sites not knowing it would not help my customers unless they were also on a mountain. And to think I could have used 1/4 watt repeaters, because after all they have the same coverage as a 250 watt Micor. Wow how stupid I was.

    I remind you your amatures.

And just for the record there are a few extra class people around here, Some may even have a First Class, NABER, NARDI radar or even other endorsements, they have little to do with anything discussed here. I dont get this upity attitude from amatures, really get over yourself.

Reading comprehension fail. Either that, or you posted in the wrong thread.

The real problem here is the age old complaint about some, really more than some, amateurs tend to be condescending and arrogant (snobs) to those less technically skilled than them. The real pros are the ones who just want to give a little friendly help and not just show (look at me, I'm so smart compared to you) off their technical skill/education. JMHO

See I think you are right to a point. The issue is not with amateurs who were never cb'ers but those who were/are and now have their ticket. They seem to be the arrogant ones, telling the "lower class of life" (as one put it the other day) how things really work.

I can see how some of them (hams) just loose patience with the CBer who has no tech knowledge whatsoever and believes everything the other CB "experts" tell him and tries to "school" the more technically advance ham. But hey, they may learn and end up being a fellow ham one day. I also have to laugh at those hams that quote what they've learned in a text book as gospel but have no actual experience in what they are talking about.........sometimes the old CBer has the upper hand in those situations.

I've been called all kinds of stupid for disagreeing with the guy who says you need eighteen feet of coax, and the coax has to be the right color. Of course he is right; that's what the guy at the radio shop told him to use, and it works in his truck. (Meanwhile, the guy at the shop pocketed an extra $10.)

I will agree that some of the hams can be a pain in the butt most of the time. And I do know a few of them who think that they know more about radio than anyone else after passing their Technician test. I also know many of us that still like to play with our CB radios. And will try to give good advise on improving your CB performance. So don't look at all hams the same. Remember I just passed a few test that anyone else can pass. It just like having a CDL any Driver can get one if they really want too. I first got my Ham license just to get around the DOT with my Export radio. Because Maryland DOT issues a $7,500-$10,000 fine for having a 10 meter radio in your truck. If you had a Ham license no problem. You are on your way. And States like DE with their illegal to use a CB while mobile law unless you are a Ham.

Geez, I sure hope I don't fall into that class. My first license was a Novice at age 9, then using my Dad's CB from around age 12, and got my 2nd Phone w/radar (now the GROL) when I was 23. I enjoy helping with the, frankly, wealth of experience I've gleaned in the 50-sumpin' years I've been doing this for fun and profit.

If I've been annoying or insulting with what I've learned, please let me know directly so I can figure out where I've gone wrong, or just decide I've been peeving people all this time.

Frankly, when I've got a question that includes a hole in my education I usually defer to one of my E.E. friends, especially the ones who also have lots of experience in real-world communications applications. Speaking of which, we've got a couple here on the forum.

But if I don't know, I'll say so, and then try to find the answer. Sometimes my resource(s) will answer himself/herself/itself/themselves. That's great for me, as I learn at the same time as the others who read his/her/its/their posts.

Lots of good info here. Also lots of bad. If someone's *SOLE* experience has been as a plug-it-in-and-try-to-make-it-work via RF legends, like 18-foot coax or expecting an RF counterpoise from a battery lead, I'll usually express my doubt if the benefit can be substantial to anyone. If a single person posts something from out in left field, I usually PM them so I can spare them the embarrassment of their peers, and give them links to where they can find the right info, besides just believing me.

But my car has a 40-channel Royce CB mobile, and a VHF/UHF mobile of recent vintage, and I can tell you how each of them works, if you're interested when you see the car.
