I have a 2013 freightliner cascadia with a cobra 19 ultra 3 (walmart cb). I know I can buy the mirror mount and put it on but I dont want to go that route. I just wanna be able to hear better in traffic and at the customers. I dont care about how far I can reach. So is there a attenna I can upgrade to that will make it clearer to hear?

Try some 4' Francis antennas. I have them and they work great
Figgy Thanks this. -
Thanks ill look into them

Run a good coax from the radio to the antenna. The coax and those junction boxes they go thru in these new trucks are the biggest culprits to signal loss. Also, the longer the antenna, the better it will work.
Powder Joints, Figgy and handlebar Thank this. -
I have always known the longer the antenna the better...however, I am tangled up in limbs with my mirrors on a daily basis and always wonder if I still have any antennas left at the end of the day.
Is there any other options out there for a W900L conventional truck that one could resort to for a good quality antenna and placement that will be optimal, or am I just dreaming?
I have a stainless steel whip I'd love to use singled out, but where would I be able to mount that beast and still have optimal omni-directional radiation? If I mounted it behind the sleeper on the drivers side, I could at least capture the oncoming traffic for awhile until they pass and are out of range. Any suggestions? -
They make what they call an "out back" bracket you might try behind the cab. The only way to really tell is like I said above, experiment. To me, the joy in radio is putting a good station together, base or mobile, and getting it to work the best it is capable of. After that, I kind of lose interest.

As long as I can match my SWR up in a decent range I should be content. Not fussy about having Dual/Cophase antennas or anything...just want things to work good. Two of anything sometimes is a pain when all you need is one. (Depending on what it is of course.) -
My Dad ran 102" white-fiberglass whips, 4 inch sprinds, off ball mounts on he top edge of his sleeper, back in the day. But he also had a Johnson Vlking white face for a radio. Hit R/R to hard and you had to plug the tubes back in.
I like Hustler beer cans on a W900. -
If that fiberglass whip was a Francis Amazer, it was shorter than 102". Somewhere around 96 OR 98 inches tall. No load, full length.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
