Ok hate to start off with this as my first post and yes ive been a lurker for a while. So i just got a company Cascadia. Went to hook up my cb and realized i needed a special connector. Upon further review i found the left antena loose, and that the fm radio didn't pick up squat. So i wrote off the factory system , cause i dont have a clue what the previous driver done and i don't wanna open that can of worms.
Change of plan: run my own stuff, make nothing permanent, drill no holes, and make it so i can use it on another truck once this one breaks down.

So i purchase the Wilson mirror mount, some crappy. 12 ft of crappy coax, a cigarette plug, and a francis whip.

SWI was off the charts, went to a top loaded tunable KW 4ft whip,
Still way, way high. Way findings says im too long.

Switched to a 3 ft. Wilson top loaded tunable Silver tip
Got me in the ball park, but still a little long.

Changed from a 12ft crappy coax to 9ft good coax.
SWI on the Cobra barely moves.

Now the CB does work, i can receive and talk in very close range; but i doubt even a mile.

Lots of noise, and lots of interference . My cell phone charging in the console drives it nuts. And if i touch the cb or even get close to it the noise stops.

My coax is simply ran through the door and up across the dash, there is no coiling. I ran a ground wire from he Wilson mirror mount to one of the unpainted bolts in the door frame.

The Wilson antena also has its on ground that connects to the antena mount.
I have also ran a ground from the CB mount to a bolt that goes in the the door frame on the other side of the cab. It helped cut down on the cut out my body was causing when i would touch the cb, but not by much.

CB is mounted to the dash, into plastic.

Ok, thats as detailed as i can get without being asked any specific questions. Please help, and drive safe!

I drive a different Cascadia every week. What year is yours? Some of the ones I drive seem to have ground issues that effect more than the CB. I have never chased those problems to find out how to correct them. For that Wilson mount, a top loaded antenna, leaned forward away from the cab seems to work the best. You also need to run your hot wire to the battery and the ground to the chassis. That may eliminate a lot of your noise problem. A lot of our drivers are mounting their antenna on the back of the sleeper on the air line hanger. It takes about 25+ feet of coax to get it to the dash, but the SWR is decent. The trailer does block your signal to the rear some, but it is functional Below is link to a thread I started that may help you.

The older ones are the ones I've had the most trouble with 2008 and 2009. The later models not so much. Those early Cascadias had some terrible ground issues.

Do you know how they're routing the coax? I got the go-ahead from the shop to mount an external antenna on my 2015 as long as I don't drill any holes.

There is grommet you can go thru on the firewall on the driver's side so you don't have to drill any holes.
