I have the radio its self mounted to plastic. Should the radio body be grounded to the truck? Running a wilson 1000 roof mount with a RoadKing RK564PCH Chrome 4-Pin Dynamic Noise Canceling CB Microphone with Flex Cord. I can hear people well but every says im real quiet on the mic if at all. do I need a ground ran off the antenna. Or ground the radio off the mounting holes. Kinda lost on what I should do or test. I had about 4 to 5ft of extra cable from antenna that I ran the length of the dash in stead of coiling up the excess coax. Any direction would be nice. Thanks.

It wouldn't hurt to ground the radio to the truck. But your problem sounds like you need to turn the mic gain up, or you have a bad mic. Is your SWR good? The antenna should be well grounded already if it is a roof mount....unless you have a plastic roof. Even a mag mount should be good as far as a ground is concerned. If you haven't already, you should make sure you have a good SWR. Turn your mic gain all the way up. If you are not loud enough then you should switch mics and try again. Get somebody you know to help you test so you can rely on their feed back.

I bought it all new with a roadking 56 and from what im reading they have problems with the newer models. Im going to take it apart and make sure all the leads are secure and check continuity. Could

I have been using RK56 mics for years never had a problem, except the switch wears out in about a year. I habe recently switched over the astictic noise canceling mics Though I would try them as they are half the price of a RK56. So far they work well.

Ranger SRA 198 is the best by far of the "new mics" . Can be had for $25 or a lil less on the bay

The new rk56 are not what they used to be but remember your stock mic will be louder its not a noise cancelling mic some ppl don't realize you need to put that Boise cancelling mic touching your lip and speak loudly into it that's why they have a lip guard on them

    handlebar Thanks this.

Purpleprime I was kinda wondering about that. I wish there was a way to get rid of the noise cancelling part.
