Sorry to disagree, the cobra can't match the galaxy , I've owned both, the galaxy has better performance, better options

Could be, I'm only talking with experience I've had with both the cobra 29 and the galaxy 939, both where set up the same way, galaxy out performed the cobra, now I know guys that have or claim to have, no real knowledge of what theirs do, that say, their cobra 29 can reach 15+ miles all the time! I just haven't had that experience

I use mine more for shipper/receiver comms, and to find out info on traffic jams etc, and of course places like Sapp Bros in Salt Lake you communicate with the scales via CB. So I don't need anything major.

Please elaborate?? They are both legal 4 watt CB radios. "Type Accepted" I believe the term is. How can one be that much better performance wise??......And I know they aren't built any better!

OK, as I said, both radios where set up the same way, same antenna, same coax, same mic, only thing different was the radio, both radios checked and tuned by same shop, the galaxy transmitted and recieved better, I could reach others farther than I could with the Cobra, if your a die hard Cobra guy, I'm ok with that, I'm only giving what experiences I have had between the two, this isn't the first galaxy I've owned, nor the first Cobra, so let's end it this way? You are entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine, sound good to you?

For a first time radio, you can't go wrong with either a Cobra 25 or a Uniden 68. Anything more you may end up overpaying for useless features.

Whatever you do make sure you invest in a good antenna and good coax. A Wilson 2000 and LMR-240 come to mind. Make sure the antenna is tuned for a 1.5:1 SWR and the Cobra 25/Uniden 68 will get out 5-10 miles on a good day as long as skip is low.

Also.....a tune and alignment is ok on a CB as all that is doing, is ensuring your radio is 100% transmititng and receiving on one frequency (channel) only, but a "peak and tweak" is bad, as is cutting limiters, spreading coils, etc.....sure it might show 10 watts on a Dosy meter....because 1 watt is going out on the CB; the other 9 are going in other areas on the radio band...i.e. TV channels, emergency channels, etc.

I think we have just demonstrated why they make more than one radio! :D
