Overall, for performance and durability, the best radio on the market has got to be the venerable Connex 3300HP or the General Lee. Either radio is a good choice. But look around very carefully.

I have seen a brand new connex 3300hp range in price from $225.00 - $375 for the same radio. Before you do anything, check out this web site. The have it all.

They have just about the best prices in the business and are well versed in prof. radio install and setup.

Hell, that is all that you get out running that set up. Something is wrong. I have a Cobra 29 ltd with K40 plus. 1.1:1 match and I can talk up to 13miles away. Across Kansas, I was talking at 15 miles.

That was just on the stock side with a large final. I also have a built in 80 internal amp inside and I get out 20 on a good day. (not a lot of chatter, like Sundays) You need to have that thing checked and dowble checked.

Hey, i just re-read this thread... the general lee is a great radio, but illegal, i dont really care one way or the other. A bud of mine picked up a general lee, and i myself use a glaxy dx959 its legal, and what i wanted to say is it talks just as good as the general lee, the general lee can swing to 50, granted i got mine "peaked and tuned" it now swings almost 30 and my radio sounds a lot clearer than his.

just throwing some of my thoguhts out their. you may be able to get a dx959 and it worked on for less than a general lee, ... or not... its worth looking into and looking around

The General Lee is 3 times the radio that the 959 is. It is not a true Galaxy. Only in name. The insides are a glorified Cobra. Stay with the 29 Ltd if you want a basic radio.

As far as the General Lee, it is not illegal if you go and get a tech license through the Gov. There is no test for it any longer. But, the FCC no longer has all those agents out there looking for illegal radios. They don't have the man power to do that. They only really look for stationary large units that are causing problems wiith people around them. And it takes a lot to get them off their fat Gov ###. You usually get a letter asking you to please stop using what you are using.

i do liek cobra they have a great receive maybe better than a galaxy but cobras dont make too great of side band talkers...

by the way a lot of the galaxy's have connex boards, the 959 is a pretty decent radio its better than the 949 even though they are advertised as basically the same thing. better finals than a cobra also.. i know their are better radios out their, and the 10m galaxys arent bad either, ... i do want some of the general series but not the lee

My friend, the best side band talking radio is the Cobra 148 GTL because that is exactly what it was built for. You ask other radio shops about that and they will tell you the same thing.
