Well, I recently acquired a general lee and now I need a better antenna. I have a coil type antenna but the stinger gives so much while my truck is moving that my swr goes from 1.1 on 1 and 1.2 on 40 while sitting to 1.5 across the board while moving.
I know this radio should receive and get out better than it does and im going to start with my antenna and cross things off from there if it doesn't work.
I have a swr meter hooked in line at all times and that's how I know my swrs get much higher while moving.
So I need a antenna that doesn't bend so much. I'm open to fiberglass antenna and coils alike. I only need around a 3.5-4 foot antenna.
Any help is much appreciated!
Need a stiff antenna

I'll have to get them tomorrow when I get back to my truck. Its just a run of the mill general. Its old and doesn't have the cooling fin on the back and has a red channel display instead of blue.

Maybe try tilting the antenna forward? Idk if that's any better for the swr reading though. I had a dual coil fancy antenna on my dumptruck but like you I didn't like the way it would bend back, so I tilted it forward. it still bent a little but not as bad.
just a thoughtDark_Majesty_06 Thanks this. -
I could reply to this thread, but pretty sure the mods would delete!

Hey, guess I walked into that one.. Oh well. Thanks runflat, I guess ill tilt it forward but my only problem with that is.. My mirrors on my century are tilted and when I tilt the antenna forward.. It points my antenna towards on coming trucks.. And if I scoot it in forwards towards me.. It sky rockets my swr.
I have read that the predator 10k is designed to stop swr loss bit its like 6 feet long.. So I would have to take 2 foot off the stinger just to get it where I need plus the antenna is around 100.. -
Good luck getting paid. Their brokers license is listed as Voluntary Revocation

Your SWR changing while moving has very little to do with your antenna's whip flexing...Has more to do with your surroundings when driving down the road than anything...You could be using a antenna as stiff as a telephone pole, and while driving your SWR is still going to jump all over the place...IT WILL NEVER STAY AT 1.1 WHEN MOVING....
What your describing is normal.Last edited: Dec 17, 2014

Oh really? In my mind, that swr jumping up made me think my radio is performing poorly.. I've always heard running a export radio any higher than 1.3-1.4 would damage the finals and throw your receive power off. Is this not the case?

Not at all...1.5 SWR mater-a-fact is about average, nothing at all wrong with SWR under 2.0... Worst thing you could do is go with a shorter antenna or tilt the antenna's forward (bull-horning) This will defiantly cause your radio to perform "poorly"...
Also after going back re-reading your posts, "IF" your running a Predator 10K right now, that is one of the best Open Coiled antenna's on the market... I seen something you said about cutting off a couple feet of the stinger to make it shorter, what ever you do, "Don't do that!"
That really will send your SWR reading out in left field...
If your looking at the Predator 10K's, I would suggest the "SW" Dual Coil Predator 10K, it tunes under 6' and you can find them less than $100 on-line, just Google Predator 10K antenna's and do some shopping.Last edited: Dec 17, 2014
