The size of the ground has to due with allowing the current flow for the DC portion but it stll needs to be there for the antenna system as well. The main concern would be the DC side.

    I appreciate all the replies!

For the back story, I had a cobra 29 and a Wilson trucker 2k. And used k40 coax. I had to wash the truck when it was zero degrees (receivers rule) and when I left the wash bay, the 2k filled with condensation and froze. Frying my radio and of course killed the antenna. I bought a New uniden and put my old tuneable k40 back on. (I never cut the firestick, just had it in my truck and put it on to see if anything changed) That's the setup that gave me fits. After the first few comments I figured I would swap the coax. So I got a Wilson 18 ft (thanks loves points!) and ran it through the grommets the factory cable ran through. Just got everything put together here in Walcott and bam! It works! Coax was the issue.

    Thanks everyone for the help!
