Hey all, new to the forum. Long time reader first time poster. I've been reading posts after posts trying to find an answer to my question with no success. So my question is...

How do you all wire up a linear amp? I just got a midnight special 250 for my lil setup and it only comes with about 6 inches of wire out the back. Do you solder to make a longer wire to the battery? Wire nuts? Electric tape and hope there's no fire? Lol.

Any and all help would be much appreciated. Thanks folks!

I solder and heat shrink. But for the bigger wire, you need a soldering gun and not a pencil to get a good solder joint. Run the wires all the way to the battery and install an inline fuse near the battery. Many fuse both wires. Probably a 50 amp fuse like for those big stereo amps. I would run 8 gauge wire. You might get by with 10 gauge with that small of an amp, but you might as well go big in case you trade up to a bigger amp. I used 6 gauge wire when I ran a Texas Star 667V. Some buy 4 gauge welding lead wire. Hopefully somebody will chime in and tell you the minimum safe gauges and fuse numbers. I always just go ask my buddy the "The World's Greatest Radio Tech." :D (we have several good, knowledgeable folks on here that will probably chime in)

I use quick disconnects to hook the Amp up to the rest of the cable going to the battery...Then at the battery terminal, I put my fuse holder... The fuse holders and fuses used in car stereo installations work just find for CB Amps....

What type of quick disconnects? Can you post a picture of what you are talking about? Thanks. Sorry, I'm a newb to the cb world.

Cinch jones connectors will work for the quick disconnect. FUSES GO AT THE BATTERY no more than 6 inches of wire before the fuse. Protect the wire where ever. Grommet (the hole) it as it (the wire) pass thru metal. You can get the cinch jones connectors off amazon. You can get High current quick disconnects at Napa Auto Parts. Jegs Speed.

I use these. Just be sure to get the gauge right. 10 gauge is good. I would still solder all connections.

I use these to hook up my Amps...They come in different sizes for different gauge's of wire.

The linear I bought had 14 gauge wire coming out of it so I hooked 14 gauge up to it and ran directly to battery. Is that gauge of wire good? Should I put a inline fuse at the end of the Positive wire from the amp then hook the inline fuse to the + on the battery?

I would...Check first to see how many amps the linear pulls, then get the right fuse...
