There is a shop at the Hoods Truck Stop near Springfield that does good work.

I have heard several of the radios that he worked on, all sounded real good.

Don't quote me, but I've HEARD that the one on I-81 exit 4 is the better one. This is NOT from experience with either though...

Ok I have a few questions that maybe you can help me with I have a cobra 29 nightwatch but it doesnt work worth a darn.I have the dynamike an gain turned all the way up and I calibrated it like the manual said I have been told that freightliner antenna suck so If I go to a cb shop what do I ask them to do and how much should I expect to spend? Do I take the cb out of the truck or will they come out to the truck. How do you know a good shop from a bad one?How long will they take?I didnt hook this thing up the company mechanic did so I have limited knowledge about this. Thanks

I would first determine which shop I wanted to use. Word of mouth will help you figure out which one. Then go see for yourself if they seem okay. Most will be.

Based on the statement that, "I calibrated it like the manual said", tells me it's a new radio, right out of the box. Correct?

    The radio is probably okay.

Just step into the shop and tell the technician you want the standing wave (SWR) checked and adjusted. This will calibrate the antenna and coax to the truck. If you're using Freightliner's OEM, factory installed antenna and coax, get ready to buy one antenna w/mirror mount, and one 18' long coax for the sum of 30 - 50 bucks because what Freightliner put on the truck is pure crap. Checking and adjusting the SWR may cost you 15 bucks, or less.

While the tech is in the truck, ask him to check your radio installation. If the face of the radio will light up, you have power and enough ground to work a light bulb, but, usually a better ground will help the radio hit it's peak.

If all of the above checks out okay, and the radio still isn't performing correctly, then you may have to take it inside the shop for a bench test, for another 10 - 20 bucks. This is where you need to trust the technician because unless you are radio savvy, he can tell you anything, and all you can say is "duh-uh". At this point if the radio needs anything, it's up to you to make your best deal.

If you travel East into TN, I can recommend two shops to you. East of Memphis on I-40 # exit 35 there is a caboose sitting behind a BP truck stop. Good people. Crazy, but good.

The other is also on I-40, East of Jackson, TN # exit 163. This place is a little less expensive for the basic services, and they do a good job.

There are other places I know of, but, all are East of the Mississippi river.
