When I key up the mic all my dash and internal lights go dim..whats going on? It is hard wired to the battery and I was told I will "stress" out the ALT if I continue..

Your truck is not suppling enough current to run the amp, as to why that is I can not say without seeing the truck, So is the truck more important than the amp, dont use it till a mechanic finds the problem.

Could be as little as a bad or missing ground cable, could be as much as bad alt and batteries. Can not diagnose over the internet.

What Powder Joints said...Your alternator's not putting out enough to run the Amp+the vehicle...

2 things you can do...either get a alternator that put's out more amperage, OR add another battery.

With all the cold weather, it also could be the battery you have is on it's last-leg...Be sure you have a good hot battery to start with.
