Any 6x2879 pill box would probably work...But your going to have to come up with a little more cash...Maybe able to run a 4 pill, but with that radio you would be pushing it.

If your 497 is wide open to which i guess is about 80-100watts..To make a dent in distence your gonna have to go atleast 600 watts ..First off thats costly...Second i would turn down the radio to out out 1.5 watts dead key and swing about 35....
Even with that most folks 10miles away are not gonna hear a huge diff in your output..
Do a lil research on s units..

If this is goin in a newer car or rig becareful of the rf messing with the electronics..
You will most likely have to upgrade your coax as well and with added power your swr will be even more important..Better have killer electrical and non electrical grounding to..

It's going to be real tough to get a radio that swings 100w's, turned down to only swing 35w's...

Well my stryker 955 wide open did 120 but has been turned down about 50% and then i can turn power down with dial and dead key 1.5..
As you know jjd,im no tech but im learning bits n pieces as i go..Still ton and tons to learn..

Not saying it's not possible, just it's not going to be like backing off the DK with the RF Power knob, and the guy said he didn't want to cut-back on the radios power...Plus...going from 100w+ swing down to 35w is more than 50%...If you were going to have to do all that, I would just get a Stryker 440 or 447 that just swings around 50w's and be done with it...A 440 or 447 would work great with a 4 pill.

Assuming class A/B biasing, a minimum of 9 2sc2879 transistors would be ideal. With class C biasing, all bets are off until you see it on a scope. 90 watts output means you need something rated for a minimum of 90 watts input. it's a lot cheaper to buy a smaller amplifier and pay your technician to reduce the output power of the primary stage

Dont know what the name of god im sayin there but i dont remember EVERRRR seeing my radio doin 120..Musta been drunk..sheesh..

Almost as bad as a cpl fellas on fb claiming 350 whatts on a cobra lx with an irf 520 change a few wires soldered instead of plugs and a power wire mod...Even said he had a shop chk its output on a spec analyzer to say it was all clean..lol....Another dude claiming 128 watts from either a stryker 655 or 955 by changeing some filters n such...NO AMP either radio to..lol

max output average of a mosfet in that radio would be 25/28 watts depending on whose meter reader you believe. Saying the max is 28 watts per mosfet you'd be looking At 84 watts total power output of a 955. The deadkey is usually set at 18watts on a 955... 120 watts outta a 955 I'm thinking NO
