I am having an issue that I can't quite figure out. I have my cb hooked straight to my battery and have had it that way for about 6 months now. All of a sudden I am having battery draining issues when I go to start my truck in the morning it's totally dead. I could not figure out what was causing it so I started trouble shooting and when I disconnect my cb from the battery I no longer have this issue. Can anyone tell me what could be causing my cb to drain the battery all of a sudden if it's even the cb or if this is just coincidence that it does not happen when I disconnect the cb. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds more like you have a battery going bad. I would have them load tested before I did anything else first.
LGarrison Thanks this. -
I second that, have them individually tested to see which one is shorting out and draining the rest.

The only issue with that is the batteries are brand new. Now when I hook up the positive wire for the cb it sparks meaning it's drawing power somehow or there is a short in it. Does anyone know what could be causing the cb to short or why it is drawing power still when its shut off?

Is there anything else attached to the power that goes to the radio?
Does the radio get warm in the back Is the radio off when you hook it up with it off, say in 20 minutes?
What kind of radio do you have? -
The spark is probably a medium spark id say. There is nothig else hooked up to the power just straight cb to battery. The back does not get warm when its off either. I have the Cobra 29lx
-
IIRC the 29lx has a memory fuction and needs constant power to store the memory. Also, if the wx alert is on, this also has a constant power draw. If the radio is off and there is a weather alert, the radio will come on by itself to alert you of severe weather. This may explain the spark when you connect the power wires. I would think at the most it would draw a...1/2 amp? Probably not even that much. Definitely not enough to run a battery down overnite. Unless the battery is on its last leg. I've had brand new batteries go bad within a few days. Could also check the alternator to see that it is charging correctly.
Is this a single, or multi battery system?icsheeple Thanks this. -
How long are you leaving the truck off? I'd get them batteries tested. -
Thats why I dont understand it, The cb has been in my truck for 6 months and just this past few weeks started doing this. The longest ive left it is overnight and the other day i hooked the cb back up to test it, went in the house got sidetracked and the battery was dead when i got out an hr later. I jumped the truck unhooked the cb and it has been fine since.
