Antenna Mounting

Hello, I hoping that someone can give me some advice on mounting an antenna on my 07 seirra (old body style) I ve heard that if i use a mag mount then i would be left with a mark when i remove it. Is there a way to prevent that? I was thinking about making a bracket that would come out from under my tonneau cover at the back of cab then mounting the antenna to that. My next question is do i go with one or two antenna's? Any advice on this would be great. Thanks for your time and help.

Hey, advice is going to change from person to person, do you not want to put holes in the body? Their are a bunch of ways to mount it to the body, Their are also plenty of mounts that you can put on the bed under the tanto cover rails, flat ones that you would be able to run from under the rail out the side. Also bumper mounts and such.... What kind of mirrors does it have? mounts for that also, Just figure out where you want to mount it, and look for a mount for it, Their are so many diffrent types, and just mprovise use one thats meant for somewhere else.

now the two antenna thing.... it depends on who you ask again. Firestick claims they have (on more than one occasion] gotten a dual antenna system to work efficiently on a 4 wheeler, with as little as a 4 ft gap. other people say you need nine feet. the thing about doing it on a 4 wheeler with a smaller gap, may give you a longer range Sideways, not front and back.... or so ive heard/read before.... One would deff do. 2 looks better though. its your choice....

I would like to try and not put any holes in the body, well none that can be seen. Do you have a link to a site that might sell the type of mount that i need. If i put the antennas at the front of the bed is that going to change the range of the antenna? As you can tell i m very new to this.

cb antenna? Larsen antennas has a small 'L' bracket that fits between the hood and fender used these many times. Glass mount antennas I have used alot with excellent results. [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

also, if their is a cb/ham radio store near you try looking at the mounts there... putting it at the front of the bed as opposed to the back really wont make much of a difference, a little... but not much, and who knows which way that difference is, good or bad....

Thanks for all your help. I think i m going to go with a mag mount, and put a piece of clear vinyl on the bottom of the antenna and wax the hell out of the roof. I was going to try a window mount but i ve herd that they are not the greatest. Thanks again.

good choice in not going with the window mount. i dont know what kind of magnet mount antenna you want to get, ive got my own feelings on these as well.... first radio shack has a 30 dollar antenna, which is pretty good, its got the magnet a little roll of quarter size black thing then the black fiberglass antenna... either 3 or 4 feet i dont remember, i used this one it was great, DONT go with the other radio shack ones.

if you want awesome reception, and i mean awesome get one of those ugly 102" steel whip antennas, and put it right in the center of the cab. those things beat any other antenna.... they just look ugly...

Also, waxing the car and such wont do a thing. I had the radio shack antenna and i had no mark when i took it off 2 years later. and i havent really heard of anyone who had problems with this... what i have heard is that it is possible for the rest of the car to fade in the sun, and under the antenna stay the same color... so trying to wax it and such wont help that. what you could do is move it every once in a while....

what ever you do just check the swr, get a matcher if you need to, and wipe under the magnet. good luck.

I have a little Wilson that i m using in my work van with a cobra night watch. It seems to work pretty good. I think i will go with the same setup in my pick-up. It seems to work pretty good. I think i will go with the same setup in my pick-up. The only thing that i find is sometimes the ANT light comes on when i key up. I ve cleaned the bottom of the antenna and the roof and it still comes on, but if i use a a clipper in line with the antenna it works fine. I m not to sure if i should be concerned about that light. I can still here everything that is going on. Any input?

The Wilson is agood antenna . Do you know what your SWR is? The antenna warning light is supposed to let you know if you have a high SWR which will keep your radio from working efficiently & could after time do some damage to your transceiver. Check it out & let us know what you got & we will try to diagnose your problem.

Yeah, like buzzsaws saying, you dont want that light on. youve gotta tune the antenna, your antenna is a 3 piece you can slide the antenna up and down in that middle piece to tune it.
