antenna watt question

what does the watts mean on the antennas. i have the little wil, which has 300watts

It is an advertising ploy to sell antennas. If you see "Rated at 1000 watts" , it means it will handle that much power without melting down!
Actually, with all the interference, hash and trash the extra power causes, I wish they WOULD melt down!

CB radios are limited to 4 watts for a good reason. If everybody adhered to that rule (but nobody every bothers to READ the rules, now DO they?), everybody would do better. But NO.......................! One jackleg says 'I'm just soooooo special and I am somebody because I can talk over the TOP of other folks", so he goes out and buys an ILLEGAL amplifier. Then the next fellow says, "Well, I ain't gonna play second fiddle to HIM, so HE goes out and buys a BIGGER amp. Next guy, next, guy and the next does the same thing. THAT is where the SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE, HOOOOOOOWLLLL, ROOOOOOOOOAR comes from; all those over-driven signals banging into each other. Oh, you'd still hear it at the 4 watt level, BUT you could still get over it because YOU and everybody else wasn't just knocking down the door with BIG RF.

The antenna sellers know that power SELLS antennas, too, so they advertise that their antennas will handle all that illegal power (that is likely heating up the cells in your body over time. Can you spell---"CANCER"?

Thats the number of watts your ant. can handle.There great little ant. and you wont be hitting anything when you pull up to a drive thru like a bank or fast food place. I ran one on my F-250 for years. I now run a Wilson 2000 mag mount. I run this ant for a little better recieve and not because I run a AMP. Hope you enjoy it.

Wilson Antenna's are rated like stereo speakers.
Lil Wil =150/300
Wilson 1000 = 500/1000
Wilson 5000 = 1000/5000

thats what i thought. thats why i only bought a 300 watt antenna. no need to spend $100+ on antenna when your only broadcasting at 4!

100+ i got a 4' Wilson silver load [actally 2] for about 20 bucks [each] and its rated at 1000 watts . but thats not one you want to mount ontop of the vehicle....

For the difference in price - I wouldn't spend it. You get a little better receive with the Wilson 1000 & 5000 but, (I own one of all 3) it's not that much better !

Actually, you can see an improvement in transmit and receive as you go up in these antennas. For whatever reason (better coax, more efficient design), they get better...you get what you pay for.

I started with a C29 and a Little Wil. I changed the Little Wil to a W1000 and it was night and day difference. I then changed up to a W5000 later on (I had given the W1000 to my Father) and it was, again, a night and day difference.

I wouldn't have anything less than a W5000 after seeing this result firsthand. However, the Little Wil is a good entry level antenna...I still have my Little Wil hanging in my garage.
