id be running this on a semi so id prefer a top loaded antenna, center load would be the lowest id go. bottom load on a semi does not work to well. also ill be running a cophased rig

i run dual wilson silverloads, and they are great, a little bit thicker than the firestick which i like better.... or you can get the flex which... flexes... and is about the same thickness as the firesticks, they also come with the tunable tip. and are supposedly "the most powerful cb antenna in the world" i know they work pretty well.

on the wilson page read "Why the "Wilson Silver Load" FGT & Flex Performs Better"and the next part as well.

thanks for the info, as far as the most powerful cb antenna in the world with 4 watts you dont need a 50,000 watt antenna. although in the words of my good friend Sammy Hagar "Fifty thousand watts of power, And its pushin' overload"

Well what they mean by "The Most Powerful Antenna In The World" is

"
Why the "Wilson Silver Load" FGT & Flex Performs Better
Testing the popular fiberglass antennas showed some brands insert losses, like a dummy load, to make their antenna look good on the SWR meter, but sacrificed most of the power gain.

Wilson designed the Silver Load, with its exclusive impedance matching transformer, to give good SWR without sacrificing power gain. Additionally, using spaced windings on the top load to eliminate the dielectric losses, and silver plated wire for maximum radiation, Wilson has the best performing fiberglass antenna available."

thats taken right off their site as well as some graphs... on a 4' antenna the firestick is only 32% less powerful, but when you start getting shorter that number jumps up.

and do they tell you where they got there data? while the graphs are convincing i prefer independent data to manufacture data. however as far as price go the wilson silver load and firestick are about the same and both have the tuning tip. the wilson silver load is said to have better flex so ill probubly go with the wilson

well personally i think wilsons are awesome... been using one for a while then went to 2 and they are great... actually have talked a lot of skip... And that page does tell how they got the data... through some doctor dude in field tests. i just prefer wilson cuz i think they work great... firestick has just never impressed me

its not that you don't need 50,000 watts, but more than you cant use it legally. More importantly a legal radio only blasts out 4 watts! 50,000-4 = 49,996 unused watts

I had a 4 ft firestick that iI used for 2 years, best one I ever had, until it got stolen. Of course I didn't have it on a big truck either. I'm going out on the road in March, I don't know what I'll use then.
