| Portable CB radio Any idea what CB I should get for Mike that he can easily take in and out of the truck he drives? They all own their own CBs so you take it with you at the beginning of your shift and plug it into the truck then take it with you at the end of your shift. Most of the trucks are Volvos, some sleeper, some day cab (mostly day cab for this run). Thanks |

| i would no recomend a handheld, if your talking about walkie talkie type, unless your getting an external antenna, other wise your only going to hear/talk when the antenna is upright. what id recommend is what ever radio you want(cobra 29 is a common one), a plywood box, [they make commercial portable stands also] and a cigarette lighter adapter with a mag mount antenna, since no other antenna is going to be worth mounting /unmounting on a regular basis as well as setting the swr's each time |

| No, I'm talking about one easily taken in and out of the truck as nothing can be affixed to the truck permanently. |

| A buddy of mine bought a cheap tool box and mounted a radio inside,has a magnetic mount antenna and a cigarette lighter adapter.puts it in the truck opens the top rolls out the antenna and mounts it and plugs it in.....ready to go......Done for the day,rolls it up,closes the lid. Very simple because he can't hard mount a radio either......hope this helps |

Now what type of radio does he have and antenna?? |
| ||||
| He has a Cobra 29.He took the handle off the top shelf and cut a hole to put the radio in,Not sure what the antenna is but I talk with him all the time and it sounds great. If I get a chance I will take a picture and post it.... |

| The trucks all have antennas so I just need a radio and they have Velcro straps on the dash to hold it in place so a standard unit will be fine. Ugly, but fine. Last edited by myminpins; 12.07.2007 at 02.00 PM. |

| While I can't suggest a radio. I can suggest something as good. They're selling "tote kits" now. It looks like an oversized aluminum briefcase, a huge box with latches and doors. Holds the CB and a Stereo. The driver simply mounts his CB and Stereo inside, hooking all the wires up (it contains speakers) to the adapter inside, which plugs into a single cigarette lighter. Side mounted Doors close to protect equipment when not in use. Once eveything is mounted. The driver simply puts it in the truck, plugs it in...takes off. Reverse it when going home Cost: about $99 I've seen them at Pilot and Loves
