Question about echo

I have a question about CBs with echo. I used to have a CB that looked just like a Cobra29, except it wasn't a Cobra. I can't remember for the life of me what brand it was. Anyway, it had the built in echo, reverb, and all that good stuff. It was stolen. So I'm trying to find another one, and I can't find one with echo on it?! What's up with that???

Was it not a CB that I had?

Seems to me like you have to buy and add on an echo board? What is the oher kind of radio some people use, but may be illegal or someting? Maybe it was 10 meter radios? Those are the only ones that seem to have echo built in. And what's the difference? Help me out here.

Thanks
Frank

yeah... you can get some radios with echo built in, cant think of any off of the top of my head right now. Honestly your best bet is to get the radio and the echo board add on. The other type of radio is a 10 meter radio. and your right it is illegal, but many people run them on the cb channels.

Rangers, Galaxy, and Con-ex but be prepared to put out some $$. I've got a Cobra 29 LTD Classic thats over 20 years old. I had it tweaked and tuned and a Con-ex board added and it still works good today. It sounds just like a Con-ex 3300.

Hey fellas thanks for the replies because this has been bugging me really bad. So either I had some mystery CB with built in echo or a 10 meter radio...?

Do y'all know what brand may be the one that looks just like the Cobra. The brand name is on the tip of my tongue I just can't spit it out.

Johnny, I looked at Galaxy Radios but the only ones I found with echo were the 10 meter radios. I know it wasn't a Galaxy anyway. If I could just hear the name I know I would remember.

A good CB techician can tweak one where it is comparable with the 10 meter radios, without clipping the finals. I don't know if its still there or not, but across from the TA at Barkeyville Pa was the CB shop that done mine, and its still going strong 20 yrs later. Dr. Dave was the guys handle'

At one time, Uniden produced Cobra radios. They were (and still are) almost identical.

I've got an old Uniden 76XL that has been modded with a Connex re-verb (echo) board. It works quite well, and, I keep it as my spare. A Galaxy 88H/L is what I use on a day to day basis. It has original equipment re-verb and a bit more power.

I like to use just enough re-verb to make it sound as though I am speaking from an empty room which is very little depth and a long delay. Too much re-verb makes some drivers sound like they are talking with their head in a five gallon bucket, or, they are stepping on their own transmission. Nasty.

You can buy a echo board off the net for under $20.00 and with a cheap soldering iron you can install it your self, they have good instructions and it's not hard at all. Now if you want a really good sound you can buy a digital echo board for around $35.00 and do the install.

This BS of a cb shop charging someone $75.00 for a $20.00 board and 5 minutes of work could be done away with if drivers would start doing the work them selves. Because it really is not hard at all for anyone with a little time and patience to do any of the mods like big finals ( a wast of money and time ) Swing kits ( same ) and other mods them selves! All you gotta do is surf the net and you will find all kinds of info so that you can do it your self.
