I Could Use Some Help

One more week with my trainer and I'll be getting my own truck. I would like to hit the ground running when we get back so I need to order a CB set up soon. Here's what I'm looking at.

A refurbished Cobra 29 WXNWST, tuned. A 4 foot Firestick whip and some upgraded coax. $160

A Uniden PC78 Elite, tuned. A Wilson FGT 4 foot whip and up graded coax. $173

Are these combos workable? Both are from businesses endorsed on this site. The antenna will be mirror mounted on a KW T600. Thanks.

You can get a brand new cobra ltd for about 60 bucks in a truck stop.

you can get the for about 60 but then they wont be tuned. both are pretty ... ok deals, all depending on what was done to the radio. i mean i had an amaizing cobra 29 with amaizing work done to it and only sold it for 90, a wilson silver load will cost 20 and good coax will cost another 20ish... so i guess either way you are paying a little bit much.... its up to you. or go with the stock radio buy your own 4ft wilson silverload and some cable. ot answer your question yes those combos are workable. its up to you if you wanna spend that much.

the cobra 29 is a good reliable 40 channel, but if you are like most people you feel the need for more power later on, if you got some money look into 10meter radios. i wouldnt pay that much for the 29 though. they are a dime a dozen. if you want a good price on a new cb checkout gijoradioelectronics they sell brand new connex 3300hps for 179 these cb shops and truck drivers will try to rob you blind on these. most people try to sell them used for 200-250 cb shops will try to charge 300 for them new. just another bunch of people with their hand out for money trying to rob the trucker i guess... hope that site helps you out.

I could use some help in choosing a Good used CB. I have had a cobra25LTD in the past. But would like to try something else out. I dont know much abotu radios but would like to purchase one that is of good craftsmanship and quality along with having the ability to have it tuned and "bench tested" before I put it in my truck. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks and Blessings.

depends on what you want to do. if you want a radio that will talk a couple/few miles there are good ones out there pretty cheap. if you want to blow peoples ears out, shoot skip, and talk beyond the 40 channel range that can get really expensive. but as a starter radio (just for normal highway chat) a cobra29 is a good choice. its cheap, you can buy them used from people all day long for 50 bucks. and once they are peaked and tuned they talk pretty good too.
just remember, you can have the best radio in the world and it will sound like crap and not get out at all if you have bad coax and your antenna isnt tuned properly. just pay the cb guy the 20 bucks and have them tune it, its worth it. a lot of the guys out here will tell you your radio has a swr meter, tune it with that, or they will tell you to buy the lil 20 dollar swr meter and tune it. dont do that. those meters arent nearly precise enough. and when you spend the 20 on the cb guy he usually uses a really nice meter, and it makes all the differance in the world. i had a galaxy949 one time (small radio) i tuned it with my meter (i used to think i knew it all). it would only get out weakly a couple of miles. i finally paid someone to tune my antena for me and it got out 9+ miles on good days and loud too. now i know a good cb guy and i just have him do everything for me.

Get a good connex with some heat, and add on a 1500 watt kicker.

The Connex is illegal and not really necessary. The lead shielding? There IS some truth to that! There is no NEED for that kind of power to talk to other trucks and to conduct one's business! RF has been shown to heat one's body cells, possibly causing cancer. Fifteen hundred watts is WAY overkill, causes splatter to other channels (and to other radio services). Big power is really NOT all its cracked up to be and does not do all the things CB legend and goofy gurus SAY it does (your friendly truck stop CB shop "expert"). All THEY care about is getting that cash OUT of your wallet and INTO theirs!!!!

I KNOW THEY HAVE THE KW T600 AND IM GOIN WITH THEM NEXT WEEK FOR TRAINING.
