how much did you pay for that radio?
although if your antenna system is great, the radio wont be too important, if your into off roading and use it for that itll be fine, if you wanna get out really far then you may need to get a new radio.....

I think I paid like $40 at walmart. I don't mind going up in price a bit. I bought it for off roading but I turn it on whenever I'm driving the bronco. So it will get some use. I want to send and receive very far.

get a taller antenna and get up in the air a bit more. I'd with a 6 foot at least. Personally I don't like th
ose antenna. Go to a truck stop and get you a wilson. they have an extension shaft that gets it up in the air before the whip starts. they come in a short shaft and long shaft. I'd go for the longer one to get it up over the top before the whip starts. the short one would be better than you have now though and any wilson will go a LONG ways to reducing your static. This is the setup I use on my jeep for offroad. On my truck I use an astatic 2k which is one of the best antenna I have ever used and they are only like $40. I get no static with this antenna. I keep the squelch all the way down most the time. it's also one of the best recieving antenna I have seen
