I say don't go for it. In order to get the swr as low as possible you have to tune the antenna. The francis doesnt have a tunable tip.
-
go with 5'ers if you can! but if you like the fiberglass (which i do) try getting a tuneable tip antenna
-
I would go with a Wilson 5000, although you can't mount it to your mirror you can get what they call a bird perch mount. It replaces one bolt in the mirror bracket and then sticks out where you can mount the antenna, this also gives a good ground.
It is especially made for Volvo trucks. Google Volvo perch mount to see what it is. -
I don't think the swr really matters, I have a pair of $30 antennas that are getting out 5 miles, Francis's are non-tuneable, but from the experts at Clay's they say their the best bang for the buck.

Is it true you have to use the factory antenna's for the volvo's? I heard something about this just wondering if thats the case

Nope not true...I just got out of a Volvo and I was running a single Wilson 5000 antenna..

I have a cobra 29 ltd classic open to 35 watts and it was workinf fine with my volvo 670 antennas but few days later my SWR was pretty bad I try to calibrate my swr but I cant ,I remove the volvo antennas and install two wilson 2000 one on each side still the same problem ,I tested my radio is ok,tested my antennas good, replace my old cable put in a new one same but if I touch my antenna with my hand the SWR works fine so I guess my problem is the ground but I cant find good ground I try the doors but no good ground any ideas that can help me thanks
