Truck bed antenna mounting ???

I'm planning on mounting a 5' Firestik II at the corner of the bed near the cab. My question is would it benefit me to make an angled mounting bracket and point it away from the cab pointing towards the rear. Have seen semi's with antennas pointing forwards.

The only reason semi's do this is for either looks or to keep from hitting something. It has no determination on receive or the way it would get out.
That is on a tractor trailer, a pick up is probably different. Because you are not installing the antenna at the highest point.
