Cobra 21 Sqeal

I have an ancient but functional 23 channel Cobra 21 that I'd like to use. I bought a magnetic base antenna with a load coil from Radio Shack. Everybody I talk to tells me the signal has a bad squeal. The antenna is mounted on the roof of a f-250 extended cab truck with a camper on it. Any ideas about whtat's going on?

The mic would be my first guess, too... esp. if you leave the talkback turned on.

Noise cancelling mics are worth the money, for sure.

if the power mic is turned to high its probably the cause....

i think if the talk back was on he would know it squeals as well.... unless the talk back speaker isnt working...

Forbidden Exclamation maybe this...

could be a short in the mic being a electronic switching system, a failed part, SWR Mismatch, corrosion on the board itself .

my sugguestion take it to a repair shop that works on radios and doesnt rip you off.

Good Luck !

ha i just re read the post.... yeah hes /\ right you probably wanna get the whole thing checked out, i mean old electronics dont work forever... but who knows it could be something unrelated to the condition of the radio, or a mic... it could be the antenna set up or a ground problem or something. first step make sure all is well with the radio....

I have a Cobra 21 as well. It died on me this last week. I can listen but if I try to talk it just comes over the FM radio and no one hears me. Got a lot of use out of it for a free radio.

Guess I'll just buy a new radio in a week or two.
