C.B. not receiving clearly

I have a radio that makes a shrill, tinny sound when receiving but I am told it gets out good and clear. Any ideas? Or is it time for the dreaded C.B shop?
Thanks

Are you using a external speaker or the speaker in the radio? Sounds like a blown speaker to me.
