I have no doubt that the receive sensitivity on your Grant LT is better than my 99. What I'm talking about is on my 99, a transmission that shows a "5" on my meter will have the same volume coming out of my speaker as a transmission that swings it to "20". I don't know if they have some kind of audio compression on the speaker output or what, but it does the job. I've had Chinese and Philippines Cobras, and a Philippines Grant XL, and I could hear great with all of them, but the speaker volume varied greatly with the level of signal received.

So what your saying is you get more volume and AGC from the same signal with a EXPORT ? I would love to see that done under measured conditions ......

I think what I'm describing is purely in the audio portion of the receive. I'm guessing that (with the export) I'm actually getting less volume with the stronger signal, rather than more volume from the weaker signal. It's probably more of an audio limiter than a compressor. Here's a for instance from earlier this evening-I was sitting at the loading area at a plant, and the truck immediately in front of me and the guard at the gate a mile away were talking. Obviously, I was getting the stronger signal from the other truck, but the volume of both sounded the same. I've actually never cared why there is a difference until now. I might email Galaxy and see what they say, they're actually pretty good about writing back.

JUST MAYBE ......

The ANL or NB is causing this ......

AGC/AVC loops can and do cause strange things in radios and are only able to adjust over a limited range .....

The receiver boards on most CB radios are very close in design and many mods are used on a wide range of boards just for this reason.
MOST HAMS and the FCC have a problem with exports because a few users of them feel they have a right to go into the 12 and 10 meter ham bands .... IT THIS NEVER WAS A PROBLEM even the FCC would not care .

I run a midland in the car it cost $39 yep real high end .... and my GRANT LT is used as a base in the shack ...... 4 watts is 4 watts thats the way I look at it ......

The small box on top of the GRANT is a radio shack DSP filter don't waist your time with one ....

I hate to get back on topic, but a few years ago I did see a Scheider driver at AES in Milwaukee. He was a tanker puller. Didn't get his call sign.
As for the discussion on interference and digital, a signal of any kind, if strong enuff and dirty enuff could cause interference to the frequency the digital signal, thus disrupting the digital signal. From 8 years of APRS experience you'll have to trust me on this one. Of course it might not apply if you got up into the 900-1200 mhz areas with Dstar.

I hear ya on the treading on 10-12 meters, I'm sure it does happen. I've got my carrier set at 4 watts too, btw.

Whatever it is that evens out the receive, I like it. My truck has pretty high background noise, so the radio has the potential to be pretty loud if turned up loud enough to hear everything.

Yes, it really makes the hams MAD. Unfortunately, some of us think that we have a right to go on "them extree channels" just 'cause! There are NO EXTRA CHANNELS for CB Radio, nor will they be! CB radio is about the ONLY "group" that does that. I never understood WHY CBers do that. What is the "logic"? Try installing a police transceiver and talking over/around/to the cops. See how THAT works out for you! So long as folks stay on CB and don't splatter, nobody cares. When they come up into 10 and 12 Meters, they WILL, sooner or later, get nailed.

Gadfly-did you read the entire post I addressed to you earlier in this thread? Your reading comprehension is severely lacking. I tried to communicate with you like a fellow human being, but you only reply to things with a knee-jerk reaction to bad mouth CB users. I am fully aware that CB is limited to 40 channels, and since I don't need you to tell me that repeatedly, the most productive way for me to deal with it is to add you to my ignore list. Take care, try to keep your blood pressure down.
