Cobra 18 WX ST

Not sure if anyone has one of these here. My brother just got one from his Father in law and wondering if its a good radio. He is just wanting it to talk while driving his personal vechile when on road trips. He asked me and I told him I had no idea, but found a great website and sure someone here will have an answer.

Thanks

cobra makes a radio with great receive for the most part. and weather band is a good thing. if hes gonna use it for road trips its a fine radio, i mean as long as the antennas are decent. although my bud uses a compact midland $20 new with a radio shack magnet mount antenna and weve gone on road trips in his car and weve got some good reception using just that. not tuned or anything

If you add a good grounded antenna and tune the antenna then it is a good radio, considering the radio works

Yeah when you say a good grounded antenna and tune it, what do you suggest. He doesn't want to drill any holes in the car, was just looking at a magnetic antenna.

If you actually plan to talk on the radio at all, then it is not the radio to have. It is very cheap. The smallest radio for a truck should be the Cobra 25 ltd. Once you get out there you will realize that there a lot of what are called big radios out there that will just drowned you out.

But most of all, make sure that you have a well tuned antenna to go with it. Usually the Stock antennas that come on a truck just are not good. Again, go to a good radio shop!

The smallest radio I recommend is a Cobra 29 ltd. You will want to get it from a reputable radio shop that can atleast peak and tune the radio to get the maximum performance out of it.

Please, whatever you do, use the darn thing. It can keep you out of a lot of problems and when there is a problem, it can get you around it.

sorry i thought the cobra 18 was a fullsize... i didnt think it was compact. the 29 is a great radio anyway. i used to have one.

how do you tune it? well it'd be best if someone could do it for you if not its not that hard of a process you just need some extra equipment. To find out how in depth go to your good friend google and type in something like "tune CB antennas" or something. most of them are right on.
