Ya know, I see all those truckstops & fuelstops along I-95 between the Carolinas and Baltimore but I don't ever here 'bout "Talkshops" being located up along that route. There's some talkin' radios up that way, plenty on local dump trucks and such. So I reason that somebody must be doing "good work" up that way somewhere. Am I missing something? [ I know it's not off I-97 # the Transit Truckstop. Not cheap or good!!! ]

Just read all the former pages in this thread and there's a lot of helpful posts but...

I live in middle GA, right off of MM 144 and I have a 2950 that needs work(all it shows are zeros on its display and won't transmit or receive). Do any of y'all know of a good CB shop around 50 miles or less from me? I thought I heard a driver on 19 say the other day that there was a good shop at MM 121 but I couldn't get back to him to verify.

I need my 2950 working as I get slammed when I talk on my Superstar because of its Roger beep.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Where can one get everything done as far as wiring in new coax like the factory did and tuning the antennas, mounting, grounding everything. By the way, for radio work I had mine done at the TA x138 I-85/40 in Whitsett, NC. Blaze does good benchwork, but doesn't do wiring etc. I've had a lot of compliments on my radio when I was in the Volvo but I didn't have the SWR issues and antenna issues I have in this International.

precision communications

also known as Original 163. I'm sure everyone here already knows about these guys but just in case...

I stopped in to buy a new antenea. They came out and checked mine out. My swr was at 1.2. I had also purchased a new radio I was expecting to have to invest $200 to make it usable. I got a great deal on a Superstar but it hadnt been converted, tuned, I was running factory wiring and ant and so on. They did everything I needed for $50.

To the HAM guys, I didnt really want a HAM but I couldnt pass this up. So I do plan to go get my HAM liscense. I will run it like I run my truck....legal. So if you have any advise feel free to share that. Until I'm legal with it I'm sticking with my cobra. But that wasnt the point here.

That shop is great. Charged me only for what I needed with no upsale. Overnight parking and coffee and cookies ready all the time. I will stop in next time by just to shoot the breeze!

If the only reason for getting a ham liscense is to run the converted superstar on the regular CB frequencies, then forget it because it is still an illegal radio to be owned and operated by ANYONE. Also the fact that the chances of the FCC doing anything to you for owning it and using it are worse then your chances are for hitting the lottery.

So just get the radio up and running and don't worry about the "HAM" thing. The worst thing that could happen is that you go on the 10 meter band which is dead to ham operaters anyway. I would just use it on 11 meter (the CB frequencies) and not worry about it. The minimal power this radio puts out, when compaired to some of the setups out there with huge amps etc, is not going to bring the FCC chasing you down and writing you any fines.

The FCC has more pressing things to do other then worry about the 10 meter and 11 meter frequencies.

Thanks Rat. I wasnt entirely sure about the legality. I have heard I would need a HAm lisc to be able to use it. Or to keep it if I was caught using it. While I do plan to stick with the CB frequency I dont want to end up in legal trouble over it. When it comes to this stuff I am an idiot. I have always used Cobras until now and been happy with them. But this was just one of those deals...

Thanks again for the response.
