I was at Walcott today, and looked at a DX939, it appears identical to the DX959 until it is turned on, then you can tell the face is back lit and the LEDs are blue instead of green. It is a straight AM radio, no sideband capability.

I needed a new speaker jack in my 959 and they fixed it quickly and without problem. My radio is still legal, it's been peaked and tuned but dead keys at about 4 watts. The reception is really good, which is why I like the sideband radios, they work well on AM, too.

I have 2 10M radios. A galaxy DX48T and a Connex 4300-300. Whoopedeedoooooo!!! Hate me if ya want. I don't get on side bands, I don't run it wide ### open. Neither of em over modulate. They sound really good and sound the same miles away. Alot of drivers have been pretty happy that I've had the bigger radio when I'm giving them directions to get deep in the woods to some of the companies around here. Also there are quite a few industrial parks close together and all they have to do is ask and I can tell em exactly where what is. Beats searching 4 of them only to find that what you needed was really another mile down the road. Can walk them through there with out having to be right there with them.

If the FCC is really out there to get us then they are going to have to get almost every log truck, chip wagon, bull hauler, trash truck, end dump, and dump truck around here. Big radios are just here. Ham operators really aren't...

    "Ham operators aren't.....WHAT?

Nobody is "out to get us". What they ARE doing is protecting the RIGHTFUL users of the ham bands from harmful, unnecessary, and ILLEGAL interference. Drivers have the privilege of operating their radios ON the legal 40 channels allocated to CB radio using authorized 40 channel, 4 watt, FCC-approved CB radios. CB operators and their minions seem to have this penchant for causing more trouble to radio spectrum than ALL other radio services combined. WHY do they think they have some sort of "rah't to tawk on them thar channels" that do NOT belong to THEM? Truth is, they DON'T!!!!:biggrin_25513: The simple solution is to just STAY ON THE CB BAND WHERE CBERS BELONG!!!!!!!!!!! If drivers feel they MUST have those trashy "fake" ham radios, then simply keep them OFF the ham bands, or the hams will be waiting in ambush.

Often the militant and illegal CB crowd whines about hams being "elitists" and snoots and "stuck up". That is NOT it! The answer to the hams' contempt for CB lies in the above paragraphs. The outlaw crap, the disrespect for others, the interference, their willingness, indeed, their stubborn almost-DEMAND to "git on them thar channels" breeds a dripping, seething derision for the outlaw CB crowd that is well and truly deserved. Again, if people would STAY where they belong, it would't be an issue!!!! It is the true reason you can find hams on other forums MOCKING CBers and the entire CB culture!!

AS to getting every log truck, chip wagon, etc, etc, etc, it may come to that because I can assure you that there ARE efforts that have been underway for some time to BAN the so-called "10 Meter 'amateur' radios" (from commercial trucks). THEY are nothing more than a channelized CB radio that is NOT approved for CB and will NEVER be permitted for CB and can cause CBers to receive fines of $10,000!!! I say GOOD for them: they DESERVE it!!!!! Buncha ------:biggrin_25516: clowns!!!! All the hams want is to be able to use what belongs to THEM without problems from unlicensed users who don't know (*censored*) from shinola about what they are doing! Somebody wants to use 10 Meters, then be willing to OBEY the law, and take the exams just like the REST of the hams who did! YES! It makes the rightful users of the bands angry, and we regard those who think they got some special permission to plop their butts outside the CB band with the utmost contempt. I don't think asking someone to EARN their radio privileges is TOO much to ask!!!!!!!

Otherwise, drivers who think they can't get caught, think they've got some sort of "rah'ts" to "use them thar channels thar" can expect to receive one of these. Think it won't happen to YOU? GET on the 10/12 Meter bands and it CAN much easier than you think! EVERY one of the recent CBers who got hit for thousands of $$$ thought it couldn't happen to them. Some of them were so incredibly STUPID that, once warned, had their equipment taken away, they caused the FCC agents to come back again and AGAIN, even replacing the seized equipment with BIGGER and more powerful radios and amps!!!! How UTTERLY stupid, how utterly dual-digit IQ can one GET?????:biggrin_2559:

FCC has been fining sellers, CB users AND warning trucking companies to get their butts OFF the 10 and 12 Meter bands or else!!!! Is it REALLY worth getting one of THESE? Take note of how much it can cost!!!!:biggrin_25524:

    Dear Mr. Smith:

Information before the Commission indicates that your drivers have been
operating radio equipment without a license on the frequency 28.535 MHz
and causing interference to licensed stations in the Ten Meter Amateur
    Band.

The drivers were observed operating unlicensed in April and May 2007 on
Route 19 between the Fairmont, West Virginia area and the Haywood power
    plant near Shinnston, WV.

Please advise your drivers that operation of radio transmitting equipment
without a license is a violation of Section 301 of the Communications Act

It is pretty simple to just stay OFF the amateur bands without license. That's all those hams WANT. Do THAT, and cause no interference to THEM and CBERS and truckers have got NO problems. Keep fooling around ON the ham bands with yer "leenyars" and them thar 10 Meter reddios (thar), you can expect that the hams will be out there just ITCHING to find the interlopers and drop a dime to the Feds. What's so hard about it? :biggrin_25523:

I don't venture off the normal 40. Was just saying there aren't many, if any, ham guys around this area.

THANK YOU, SIR!!!:biggrin_255: Yes, I DO have a passion for amateur radio, at least as large as those who are passionate about CB. To those who operate legally, I give all due respect. It's the militant outlaw types that I find ON 10 Meters that p**** me off! I'm sitting here right now listening to some goon on 10 Meters, and---------------yeah, it makes me MAD. This (censored) has NO business being there, yet he has gone out and bought one of those "BIG" 10 Meter "amateur" (yeah, right) radios---"LOOK MA, Hit's got 8 bands of extree channels thar so ah kin git on them thar funny channels!" :biggrin_2559: He neither knows, nor likely cares, that he is WAY outside the CB band. Is there any WONDER it makes hams MAD to find some jackleg yappin' his trap where he doesn't belong? If you found ME in
your shed fixin' to borrow your John Deere, wouldn't that make you mad? Well, that's about how it feels to find somebody talking where you are supposed to be able to.

Thanks again for the understanding. And with that said, why not investigate amateur radio, find out what its all about! Ham radio and trucking are actually a good "fit', and allows a driver to pursue a hobby that is very satisfying AND even allow one to keep in touch with home!
The equipment is generally the same size as a CB and, unlike most CB rigs, it can often be remoted so that there's only a small control head on the dash that permits access to most ALL the ham bands, both HF and VHF/UHF. The equipment is FAR advanced beyond that of a CB rig. For example, the Icom 706 Mark II G is, when you come down to it, EIGHT radios in one, and combines, for example, a General Coverage receiver, a VHF receiver, aircraft receiver, HF radio, 6 Meter (50 MHZ) radio, 2 Meter rig, 440 MHZ radio, AND a scanner-----all rolled into one!!!! You can listen to Public Safety (hams are generally exempt from scanner laws WITH certain exceptions, so READ the rules carefully to know how to protect oneself from zealous cops). CBers often LOVE that they call "skip" and think that talking from NC to Texas is something. How about chatting with Barcelona, Spain like he is in the truck with you?:biggrin_25524: Or a "chap" from England (cheerio, pip, pip, and all that sort of rot). If you are interested in any 'hobby' aspects of CB, you will LOVE amateur radio because it will blow the socks off anything you ever had with CB. And the license is simpler than you think! Go over to www.qrz.com and explore the links! You'll find how to get started and how to find a testing site.

I have a 939 deadkeys 4watts and swings 48 watts . works good with an Astatic mic. I do wish I had bought the 959 simply for the uppers and lowers.

Last night on our 2 meter SSB net we had 17 checkins ... the band was open from Key west to the Georgia state line 99% of us run 10 - 50 watts ...

You don't need 5,000 watts to have fun ....

    What do you call a 30 watt 959 ? .....

" if you bring it to a guy who knows galaxy radios your radio will be awesome "

Remember YOU not the tech making your legal 959 illegal are held under the rules .... The Rules apply to the owner/user and the " TECHS" know this. The FCC can't do anything to the radio tech when they ended the requirement to be licensed enforcement was over ....

This is why they are out there if they were held they would not risk the fines .... and loss of the GROL .....

This is the cold hard facts ......

My question to all ham radio operators then is then why alot of you talk on 19 then since you have a whole lot of other channels to play with? Guys running cobras and such can't hear other truckers 5 miles down the road calling out a accident scene to avoid and such because you guys r blowing up the airwaves with high output base units? I run a 10 meter just for that reason so I can get out over them.
