Galaxy DX939

I was looking at the galaxy 939 and was wondering if anybody had any info on this radio and how it performs with a simple peak and tune. Also, I was planning on ordering from walcott cb online. Wondering if anybody used them as well, along with their added peak and tune. Are they any good? Lastly, I was wondering what kind of antennas to run. I have some firestiks lying around from my pickup, but was wondering if there was a better route to run. Wilson 5000 maybe? Thanks for all the help.

Ok, so I put this post in the wrong section. But where do you get the idea that the Galaxy is illegal? I am under the impression that this model is not a ham radio, and even if it was, a permit is not that hard to obtain. So please tell me, what makes the galaxy illegal? Oh ya, almost forgot....there is no such thing as too much power. Not to mention I said nothing of the fact about installing a foot warmer. Just a peak and tune.

A Galaxy 939 appears to be the same radio as a 959, except it has a back lit faceplate and blue LCD display instead of the red display on a 959. If it has the FCC compliance sticker, it is a legal radio, from what I have been told, the 2 digit models are considered Amateur, and the 3 digit model numbers are supposed to be CBs. I think it is probably an AM/SSB radio, but I don't find that in the description, it looks just like a 959 complete with a 5 digit frequency display.

Walcott CB has a pretty good reputation, what are they telling you they can do with it?

The "3 digit" designation Galaxys are fcc-approved cb radios. They have 40 channels and the required federal sticker. Only when they are "tinkered with" do they become "illegal".

The "2 digit" so-called "10 Meter 'amateur' radios" are the ones that ARE illegal. These have "bands" of channels, are easily modified to be used on CB, and have more power out of the box than allowed for CB operations (Part 95). THESE will get one into trouble! If one buys one of these "10 Meter" radios and transmits on the actual 10 Meter band, it will draw the ire of the licensed hams who will track down the offender and turn him into the FCC!

OTH, using the regular 939 is not likely to cause too much problems so long as it doesn't splatter all over the place.

Hope this clears it about the legal Galaxy vs. the illegal one!

galaxydx 939 949 and 959 are legal, not all galaxy's are illegal 10m radios, but let me tell you if you bring it to a guy who knows galaxy radios your radio will be awesome, although if you want it to push 30w go with the 959 no difference that you will be able to tell while using it except more powerful, great for sideband operation

A ham ticket is not hard to get. A 35 question test and get 28 right. Then you will have the first license. This will get you on the ham hands including parts of 10 meters. And the next test is 35 questions also. And then you can talk on all the ham bands.

So play the ham game it is not hard. But as soon as you get a license you have to play by the rules. If you don't then you should be willing to pay out somewhere in the $5,000 to $10,000 in fines for each offence. That is why we play under the rules. Most of us with a ham license don't want to pay uncle. Oh yes we make mistakes and we have to correct what we do. As long as you correct your mistakes you will not have to look over your shoulder..

I just despise people who run way more power than they need to and talk over you!
