ch 9?

what goes on channel 9? i know it's emergency, and i've heard that there are some volunteers out who constantly listen in, but how does it work? if a driver has a tiny radio with very little range, will anyone pick up on 9? for some reason i have always been afraid to play with it...

I've tried seeking a bear on Channel 9 a few times and had no luck. Like the time I was going through PA and there was a driver that was driving down the middle of the road, weaving all over, and running other drivers off the road. My understanding is that it's not monitored much any more.

There used to be a monitoring agency called REACT that would monitor channel 9. Unfortunately they really don't do it these days to my understanding. Which makes me wonder why all new CB radios still come with a channel 9 switch.

However I was told by an old timer CB operator that they're trying to bring it back.

REACT all depends on where you live, some places react is lively, but more often then not thier is no "REACT" to become an official REACT team you need to pay fees and do a bunch of stuff no one wants to do anymore. i have wanted to start a react team near me, but dotn wanna pay... i am sure if the FCC said ok no more fees youd see react popping up all over the place.

Ohio is supposed to monitor channel 9, but most of the highway patrol monitors channel 19.

dont play with channel 9 as it is designated for emergency use . in my opinion , weather it is constantly monitored or not , it is for emergencys and theyre are plenty of other channels to play on . sometimes if i dont realy wanna talk on the cb ill put it on 9 and adjust the squelch to quiet the static while i listen to the stereo , just in case someone needs some help .
