yes I understand finding a real company..ME too. It looks like I 'm going to have to give up the pilot car business and return to the big truck.. I still kept my CDL and now I'm out looking.. I was talking to one trucking companys and they were telling me that I had to load and unload...Well I told them after 35 years I don't think so. I don't have lumper on my CDL Nor do I have tarps listed on my CDL..I don't do either....

Hi Otter,

Nick here, KC6DVT (Expired). I was a Radio Operator/Loadmaster in the 130's in the Corps. It has been quite a few years since I have worked with HF rigs. Have they come a long way since 72.

Noticed yours is mobile. Have been looking to get my ticket renewed. I only took the novice, so that I could still work code and voice. I heard there was a new "No Code" tech test out there. Have you heard anything about that?

Good to see HAMS out there in the trucking industry. I am planning on joining the trucking industry real soon.

Be Safe and Have fun !!!

There is no code requirement at all any more all the way to extra and only 3 class's left tech, general, extra and none require code. So now is the time to go for it and get that ticket its never been easier all theory and no code required at all.

Well I'll be ???

I guess they really needed operators to keep the spectrum. Do you think that was the strategy? I know there was talk a long time ago, that the operators were not using the spectrum enough, and they were talking about re-assigning some of the band to other agencies to free up space.

Good to know. I think I will look into that.

Thanks,
Semper-Fi

I’m also a Navy / Marine Corps MARS operator, which only requires a Tech Class Amateur license. We’re starting to use CW again, to build proficiency, because CW will work when other modes will not.

Hi Otter, Hi Phil,

Good to see you guys out here. We used to train with code comming into Futenma and some at Cubi-Point some years ago.

We had old 48's in the 130's. Good rigs, but thay had to be re-worked every time we would do short field operations. I guess the vibration was a bit much for them.

Lost our wire once going into Dong Ha. That was a bummer. Had to hop and cut that puppy to get the heck out of there. Not a real good place to park a 130 for any length of time.

Where were you guys at?

Hi Nick,
these new rigs hold up in the truck well. I have two hf rigs that I run with and 2 2meter only rigs and a 220 rig. Plus a duel bander that is to do APRS and scan 2 & 440...
Nick I'm out of Florida.. So I have the choice of HRO Atlanta or AES Orlando.
I mostly use HRO Free shipping over $100 and no state sales tax. And another thing is HRO has a place in Portland, OR, and that is where my wife is from and I stop int their time to time and spend my hard earned money. No Sales tax the same as Delaware.

Wow! Millington! Now THAT brings back some memories. I'd forgotten about the old "Bluff City CB Radio Club" until just now (before you were BORN, Weathergeek!) I still have my "Ratchet Jaw of the Month" award (a big old triode vacuum tube about 12" tall mounted on a nice wooden pedastal like a trophy). Great fun in those days!

I'm somewhat more reserved now. (Yeah! Right!)
