Sideband AND Weather Alert??

Does anyone know if there is a CB that will run SSB and receive weather alerts? I've searched both here and google and didn't find anything, but figured it still couldn't hurt to ask.

TIA!

Cobra made a couple of them BUT I think because they had the SSB on them. Many drivers were purchasing these radios as CB's. The FCC starting going after the trucking companies and fining them. So all the truckstops started dumping these radios before they got in trouble for them. I have a brand new Cobra 200 GTL DX nightwatch in the box sitting here. I would be willing to sell it. The original price tag on it is $319, make me a offer.

thats not why they stopped selling them.... sideband is not illegal, its just a lot to put into one box...
side band is completely legal, and its legal to use up to 12w on sideband as well

okay, I'm a little confused. Does this radio require modification to work on 11 meter?

What started this was my being told the only way I could write a CB off on my taxes, would be if it had weather on it. Since I also wanted SSB, I was hoping to find an 11 meter radio that did both. Does that make any sense?

Any radio you buy for the truck can be a deduction, whether it's required for the job or just personal hobby on the road. I deduct all my HAM gear, magazines, newspapers, DirecTV, Television, scanner, anything you buy for your personal entertainment while away for home.

it depends. if you can find an actual 11m CB with sideband and weather then it is a sideband CB radio completely legal, and no mods. unfortunately they are ridiculously hard to find (gonna need an old one) now if you get an 10m radio some of them have sideband and weather together, but they are not CB radios they are 10m so they would require a modification to work on the CB's 11m band. depends on the radio...
good thing about the 10m they often put out more power, which who really cares on CB its a buncha blabber but on sideband youll still be able to talk durring skip.

Yes, it would need modification to be 11 meter. This radio is a AM/FM/SSB/CW 10 meter amateur radio. I don't think it has to have weather for the tax write off. I used this radio last year as a tax write off. I just never used the radio because it needed to be wired either to the batteries or fuse box. (Being a company driver, I won't do this) It requires at least 20amp power. The terminals in trucks do not provide 20 amps.
Just beware that using a radio of this type requires a fcc license. Which is why I said, most of the truck stops were dumping these radios.

Hes right, because they no longer make any CB radios with both sideband and weather, they only make 10m radios with both, and yeah, those will require being modified. (older CB's had both and they were actual CB's)

you can legally get a CB with either sideband or weather band.... and it will be a lot cheaper for a legit CB radio. If you havent used sideband and you plan on using it for driving, and communication to other truckers you should probably get that idea out of your head... cuz its not really going to happen... if thats what you were thinking ditch the ssb, and just get a radio with Weather Band. youll spend less than 150 and get a good legal CB....

and if you do get a regular cb, just wait, eventually you will find an older CB with both SSB and WX,

... or splurge and get a 10m radio...
