I'll add my penny's worth here. I've owned just about all of the bigger CB's and a bunch of the smaller ones. I used to really be into it when I was driving someone else's truck. It seemed like I was always running with drivers from the same company or drivers from other companies doing the same thing. We were always talking and looking for each other. I had some kick butt set ups. Many from shops mentioned in this thread.
The only bashing I'll do is this.....the worst one of the bunch was a Galaxy 48T that had the (not so)Super Whack Pack. What a rip off. Loud? Sure. Splattered all over the band? Definitely. Other stuff in the radio NOT WORKING and screwed up? Yup. Total waste of money!
After I bought my own truck, I was running alone more. I got into ham radio and like it WAY better than CB, but I still like CB when everybody acts like adults, so I still wanted a nice setup that worked good.
I found a great deal on an orange lit faced Uniden PC78Elite new in the box at a farm sale. I had had one in the past and it was a good radio. I really like the new one, too. An older gentleman who is also a ham that I know tuned it (NOT clipped it) for me and it's working great. I got a good antenna set up, grounded and tuned it right, my trusty Astatic noise canceling mic, and this thing talks just about as good as most of the big radios I've had in the past and BETTER than the (not so)Super Whack Packed 48T, which is still residing in a closet around here.
I guess the long and short of it is that I'll take a 65 dollar radio with a quality mic, and a great antenna set up over a 550 dollar radio full of cheap after market parts and an overpriced, warranty voiding hatchet job by somebody claiming to be the best.heavyhaulerss Thanks this. -
Wow Props out to the New Guy here ..What's Going On Al ? -
The parts used in these tech's "supertunes" can be bought at most Radio Shacks for a couple of bucks, even cheaper when they buy in bulk form an electronic components distributor. -

DO NOT USE RADIOACTIVE, they will hack wack and totally wreck your radio. That is all.

I am a o.t.r. trucker. bought a s.w.p. gn lee few years ago.from the fist day, my radio power kept going out. called mike, he said to dod something with the wires? not sure at the time what he meant. I thought ,I am no tech. can I just send you my wiring & you send me a new one? the radio would work with my old wiring. found out later after taking the smallest phillips head screw out of plastic end that the soldering was not secure on wire connection, casing radio to lose power with the bumps in the ride. next was the astatic mic I bought too. took it in after using for 3 days to local shop. wire had to be re soldered. these things may have been the fault of the mfr. but I paid rar, not the mfr, so guess who I expected to fix the prob? yes rar. had other problems, too many to list. on one I had radio sent back to rar. got charged too. too much. I am a member of cbradiotalk & think highly of the folks on there. I just had a bad experience with rar. financially & otherwise. I bought something from sparkys aproxx 2 years ago. had great experience with them. spoke to the owner on the phone. he was real nice. professional & polite. would do business with him if needed.

I too bought a rci-2950 from radioactive and it burned up my Texas star 500, mike was no help in resolving the problem I spent alot more money to unwhack the ranger and finally sold it for $50 and I did tell the guy who bought it was from radioactive whack specialists. I myself would never buy anything from them!

I too am curious, exactly what awards did RAR win????
