Even the"good shops" hold to hourly bench rates
    and high mark ups.
It takes a tech with ability to "talk it up"
then produce results, there by establishing a solid reputation
    and future business.

I would agree to beware of CB shops in Truck Stops, but my point was there are still some good ones out there. It takes about 30 minutes to set up a radio, give or take, unless there are other problems.

I want to put this delicately. I'm not making accusations against anyone in particular. I have mentioned in other posts about how there are those in the amateur community who take great joy in causing CB shops trouble from the FCC by lodging complaints against them. They troll CB boards trying to get names and locations of shops to harass. At the request of the techs I referred to, I will not name them or the location of their shops. It pains me not to be able to brag on these guys because I've known them a long time, they are honest and do quality work that they stand behind. But I will honor their request and keep them anonymous.

I just had one of them do the Schottky diode mod on all three of my dual final galaxy type radios, change the meter lights to an L.E.D. and "freshen" the tune today. If anybody is interested in having one of them do some work, PM me and we'll figure something out.

You are right, there are some in the amateur radio world that make it their mission to be the biggest thorn in a CB shop/CB operators side. In all reality, if the FCC really wanted to do an audit to see if a CB shop is in compliance, I doubt they'd need the info to come from a narc. They probably already have a list of shops on hand to choose from. It's easier than ever these days tot rack someone down. How do you think these internet CB shops that feature Stryker and Connex radio sales manage to stay in business even when they have their shop address listed clear as day? But I understand your wanting to keep said shops anonymous....hopefully one of those shops you brag about isn't Mr CB at the Petro off I-70 exit 28.

No, I-44 area. I'm sure the FCC doesn't care, unless they get a complaint, then I believe they have to follow up on that complaint. Probably a nasty letter the first time. But if you were a long time shop that made your living doing CB work, and not one of those who pop up for a few months and then disappear, I am sure you wouldn't even want to take a chance on popping up on the FCC radar. Obviously we don't have any ham guys locally that care because these two I'm talking about have been in business for years without any problems. But this is the world wide web, you are literally exposed to millions here, and there are few bad apples in every barrel!

The sale of so called " EXPORT " radios aside the FCC has little they can do to the shops. If you look at the fines 99% of them are for the radios since the FCC no longer requires a license or can hold the shop for repairs or even mods to the radios that is now on the end users back ....

SO if a shop wack-packs out your radio and the FCC hits you with a $10,000 fine you can't go after the shop or the tech.

The Whack Pack is so bad I for one vote to give the FCC all power needed to go after any involved in it's creation. This is one area where I think the customer has suffered enough already. Not only did they pay too much for the mod they have to pay to correct all problems created by it.

    AGREE .......

The problem as you well know is the FCC no longer requires any license or even training to work on CB radios SO .... you have wack-packers out there .

i'm quite happy with my General Lee. With stock factory antennas i've talked 8 miles. My guess is i could talk further if i wanted to. 8 miles was all the further ahead i got from the slower truck i was talking to. Cuz

Interesting post here and I've been out there and heard those jacka$$ clowns walking over everyone or just making a nuesance of themselves and everyone in a 1 mile range.

I'd like to have a good transmit signal but I don't want to p1ss folks off in the process.

Back in the early/mid 1970's I used to talk to my neighbor on his base and his girlfriend used to flirt with me because she could and because I was like 8 years old. Back then you didn't hear much cussing if any at all. I lived off I-30 (D/FW turn pike) and truckers were really cool to me and seemed to like to chat it up. But the volgur manner of a lot for folks is pretty bad these days and I've been guilty of foaming at the mouth over some idiot starting trouble.

Speaking of trouble I was slidding through Dallas a few months ago and this driver is talking about taking percocet and that he doesn't drive after taking it. Well that is BS because it won't leave your system after just 10 hours and I key back at him and said ya know a lot of folks have there ears on when you said that. Silence from him......the ole tongue is a mighty sword sometimes and I try and watch my comments even if you can't see me.

I won't ever be a guy who owns an amp but I'd get a RFX 75 for my radio when the funds become available. I reckon when my radio is set up I should be able to get it on so to speak with some decent transmit signal.
