The last CB that I recall being "close" to a Ham. Was the HR 2510 by Uniden. It was sold as a Ham (I think), then you had the jumper soldered in, this allowed the CB channels/band to function. I may have that backwards...it's been so long.

You can still find them on ebay and the likes. But they sell for the same price they did new, most times.

I know I miss mine. Wish they still sold them new. I would grab one in a heartbeat.

Mods kits/plans galore were availible for this radio. 2-meter etc etc.

No no no...thats not what I meant LOL.

You can have the Galaxy jumpered too, for CB/40 channel usage. It just isn't a true Ham radio.

If you're going to get a general for HAM....pop the extra money for a real HAM radio. There is a lot of differance. And you'll enjoy it more. You'll be relegated to "pre-set" frequencies otherwise.

You can still get you a decent CB for under $100.

OK. Some clarification is in order here. First of all, the so-called "10 Meter 'amateur' radio" is NOT a "ham" radio at all. True it can be USED on the 10 Meter amateur band, (with the correct license) but that is not it's real purpose. That's why it looks so much like a CB radio, for that is its REAL market. It is labeled as a 'ham", or amateur, radio in an futile attempt to skirt the FCC rules for CB Radio so it can offer more "channels" and more power to the CB user. BOTH are illegal for CB. It fails in that account because, first of all, a REAL amateur radio does not USE "channels". It fails again because there are exactly 40 channels for CB, no MORE, no LESS! There is NO such thing as a "freeband" with extree channels for the taking!

A REAL amateur radio does not "beep and squeak" like some infantile toy, Finally, the so-called "10 Meter" radios with the "bands" of 'channels" are completely ILLEGAL to use on CB. And, if one is planning to obtain the amateur license, these things CANNOT be used in a DUAL role as both an amateur transceiver AND as a CB radio. Such is against the law, and could cause one to lose the license he worked to obtain. The correct, and the ONLY way, legally to operate CB and amateur radio is to, literally, keep both avocations separate. Use a LEGAL 40 channel, 4 watt, FCC certified CB radio on CB, and an approved AMATEUR transceiver ON the amateur bands. Sure, it would be handy (and, to many, logical) to be able to have just ONE radio to do both, but there are NO legally certified radios that permit two radio services to be serviced with ONE radio except in some VERY narrow circumstances. One must READ the rules for the services he intends to operate in CAREFULLY to prevent getting into some real trouble. The Feds are not asleep anymore, and some very heavy fines have been levied against various radio services, and this includes a number of CBers and shops that sell and service the so-called "10 Meter 'amateur' Radios". Honestly, I would stay AWAY from the ILLEGAL radios (for CB or dual uses) and go with a regular 40 channel CB for my driving needs.

I won't bother with anything else you related to. But Ham radio's do beep and squeak, just like CB's. Thankfully, not all Hams are pinheaded enough to install the toys.

IE The Roger Beep, didn't originate in the CB.

And enforcement is sporadic at best. We have the same losers, running the same #### day in and day out. And they've been doing it for years.

The probabily of someone actually doing something about it? About 1 in 1000. First time offenders rarely get fines.
