Cobra CB Trouble

Hi everyone
This is a first time posting here for me, but ive been readying alot of the threads on here since I was attending driving school. Anyway i am going across Canada at the end of the month to go drive a water truck in alberta and I decided I should wire a cb up for myself for the long drive.

I bought an older cobra off my friend who used to drive a truck and I bought a magnet mount antenna from walmart. In his classified add the model of the radio is a cobra sound tracker 29 ltd. st.

Before I went to pick it up I did some prewiring so that all I had to do was plug it in so I could make sure it worked before I payed for it. He said the SWF was really high on channel 1 (the trucker channel) around here so I guess what im trying to ask is how do I adjust this radio for maximum performance. I know nothing about cbs so If someone could make some sense of all the abreviations on the buttoms that would be great.

Thanks

first you need to get a swr meter . dont trust the one built into any radio . you will need a 3 foot coax jumper for the swr meter . im going to give you two links to go look at . one will tell you how to use the swr meter and the other will tell you how to use the meter to tune the antenna to a acceptable swr .

as far as adjusting the radio i guess you mean tune it up . id suggest getting a good tech to do an alignment and tune up on it . dont just go to anybody , ask around for whos good locally or you could send it to one of the few good tech available online .
also be sure to double check your coax and its connectors to be sure theyre in good condition .

by the way......... welcome to the forum rookie89
