| Looking at a new radio. Well being a licensed HAM opperator, Im looking at 10M radios. I like the Galaxy 94HP and the Magnum S9. Im leaning more to the Magnum S9. Does anyone have either of the two and can give input on them? Ive got a uniden PC78LTW # 30W that Ive had for 4 years and have had no issues with it.

Just as info, one must not be tempted to use a 10 Meter radio both in the amateur bands AND on CB. This is against the law, even tho it would be convenient! You, of course, may already know these things. 73 Gadfly |

| Exactly! Plus I was wondering why anyone would want to be "stuck on the frequencies ending in 5'" when hams aren't restricted to "channels" and often end up using odd frequencies (often ending in "0" more often than "5"). A TRUE amateur radio makes one of those junk exports makes them look like trash what with all the features they offer. ![]() Gadfly |

| doesnt it all depend on the radio itself? mean i know for a fact that the galaxy 95t(2) can go on what ever channel you want because of its clarifier, its got the SSB so it can actually be used as a 10m radio too.... grantd the 95t2 is a "higher end" radio than most exports |

Here in North Texas we have one of the most "Active" FCC offices in the country, located right here in Dallas...And the ONLY people I know who have been payed visits from the FCC, were all operating Base Units, and running amps that would bleed all over the neighbors TV sets... And even then, In the cases I know of, the FCC payed more than 3 separate visits to the guy's, before they really did anything. First 2 visits were basically just warning's, and letting the guys know what was "Legal" and what wasn't...By the 3rd visit, they were issued letters to appear in court, and were issued citations, but in each case charges were drooped, and no fines were ever handed out... "Out-Law" CB use is like at the bottom of the pile, of the FCC's worries... But I do agree, that just because you may have your "Ticket", that doesn't mean you can "Legally" have One radio, that can operate on 10 Meter, and 11 Meter, regardless if it is a Export, or a La-git Ham rig... |

| Like I said. Im just looking. I know I cant use the 1 radio for both. But Ive got a little extra $$ right now and well, I like shiny things.... I have a IC207H that is in the truck. But thank you to everyone that gave their input. I think Ill just do plan B, and not spend the $$ just yet. And save it for an IC92AD with DSTAR!

| How do you go about getting licensed anyway??? And what is the point, I mean what can you do, who are you gonna talk to and stuff like that?? If some one could fill me in that would be nice. |

I don't have the ticket, but there are many more frequencies and bands than just 11 meters that can be used, and you are then legal to use those frequencies. Amateur radio is much more friendly than CB as well because everyone that has a license is qualified and most show each other respect. |
