Cobra 29 Weather vs. ST

I'm a newbie, just starting school on Dec. 8th. Presuming that I'll need my own CB once I get a job, I'll most likely go with the Cobra 29. I've heard that I should stay away from Sound Tracker, but I'm thinking the Weather would be good thing to have. To get Weather, on every Cobra I've looked at, you must also take the Sound Tracker. Is it worth it to put up with the ST in order to get the Weather, or would I be just as well off forgetting the Weather so that I don't have to put up with the ST ?

Thanks!

Just get yourself a basic 25 or 29. The stereo in the truck usually has the weather bands anyway.

i have the 29 with both weather and soundtracker. i almost never use the weather feature and have never turned the st off, why do they say to "stay away" from it?

if you want the weather and not the st, just turn the st off, there is a switch

I have a 29 weather, nightwatch. I love the lighted dial, but the weather channel, while good, will drive you crazy when a lot of alerts are going off.

My T-600 had the cb speaker right beside my left ear, and out of the blue that thing would squeal out and scare you to death. The volume control has no effect on it. You have to turn off the radio.

It will wake you from a sound sleep, which is not good if you are in the sleeper and your partner is driving.

Maybe they changed the newer ones. Mine is about 7-8 years old. It will drive you crazy along the gulf coast when a hurricane is close in.

It is so loud my left ear would ring for a few minutes.

You can turn mine to weather and hear reports all day long, but it will alert and scare the H### out of you if it is on the regular channels.

It is something built in to alert you to change to the weather channel for emergency broadcast.

The Soundtracker feature is fine. There is button to turn it on an off. I have been running a Cobra 29 NW ST with a Wilson 5000 for years. I can routinely get a 10 mile throw even in less than good weather. 5 miles in hilly terrain. Nothing has been done except using good coax and matching the radio and antenna perfectly.
