Well, here I am. Joining a new forum to gain answers for a friend who does not have the luxury of owning a computer. No harm done, I sure this will broaden my knowledge as well.

My buddy just installed a Connex 4300-300. He has only dealt with regular cb radios in the past but the power of this one had him sold from the get go. This radio has more switches and knobs which raises questions.

He would like to know the functionality and relation of each switch or knob that I have listed below.

    10kHz switch

    RF Gain

    RF Power

    Mic Gain

I'm sure more questions are to come, so thanks in advance for any explainations that are provided.

Now another note. This is not actually a CB and unless it was perfectly aligned to operate on the CB bands then it will not work very well and it might bleed over onto the non CB bands. This may get him in trouble if he is in highly populated areas were there are Ham Radio operators listening in.

Tell him to leave it on AM only and not try to operate it on FM etc.

First of all, the so-called "10 Meter" radios are highly ILLEGAL and could get a fellow in trouble! The most particular knob that will get one into trouble is that "band" switch. First of all, there are NO 'bands' in CB radio! There is ONE "band" of "channels", 40 of them to be exact. One must NOT transmit on those other "channels".....and they are NOT "channels" but frequencies assigned to other services. The ones most likely to cause one to get into trouble with FCC are the ones assigned to the actual "10 Meter" band. This band requires an Amateur Radio license from FCC, and worse, if you start yakking on it using the usual trucker and CB lingo, the
licensed amateurs WILL TRACK YOU DOWN AND TURN YOU OVER TO FCC!!!:biggrin_2553:!!!! Your company will then get a letter warning them to stop transmitting with the illegal radios and to REMOVE them from the company's trucks!!!!!! Over 150 trucking companys have gotten 'popped' by the Feds for this. The hams simply will NOT tolerate interlopers on their frequencies!!!!! They are VERY adept at tracking illegals. And, btw, the fines can reach $18,000 PER violation!!!!!!! It is simply not a good idea to be operating outside the CB band with one of the illegal radios!
    YMMV!

Some of what gladfly posted is true as it is actually illegal to actually use this radio unless you are liscensed to use it on the 10 meter bands. Since it puts out more power then a Cobra or Uniden or other CBs then it illegal to use it as a CB also and there are no cards (liscenses) avaliable to use this on the CB bands because of its power output.

Don't worry about the cry baby Hams etc turning you in unless you are on their golden bands and acting like a fool etc.

I would not worry about getting turned in for using it on the CB bands either unless you are parked for an extended period of time and transmitting a bunch of crap on the radio and just genrrally trying to annoy people.

Get the radio aligned to be on frequency and just be a normal person and not a radio rambo and all will be good.

I love my connex and would not be without it. It is ten times what a cobra and uniden are in terms of quality and performance.

The only thing it did not need is the Eco and reverb or talk back. They are all turned off on mine also.

I sure wish I could get a radio with similar performance without the eco and reverb crap and without talkback to keep the price down.

The radio was purchased at Radio Active Radios and he told them at time of order that all he needed it to do was to work on the regular 1-40 channels, so I'm assuming that it was aligned correctly.

The guy has a new toy with a bunch of bells and whistles, so now he's wondering what everything does and what he can actually do with it. Of course I would want to know too if I had one.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure there are more questions to come.

Well that concerns me because Radio Active Radios is one of the worst places to get a radio unless they did not open it up and tinker with it.

If they did open it up and do any of their tricks to it then it will be splattering all over the band.

I had to get mine aligned by a real competent shop to make sure it was perfectly on frequency and this is actually something that needs to be done on all 10 meter radios reguardless of what the frequency knob does.

If I hear you there talking on the 10 meter HAM band without a call sign and can identify your truck and/or your company you will have problems. It's too easy to get a ham radio license now days to do it illegally. There isnt even a code test anymore. I never understood it. I guess the grass is greener on the other side. CB ers don't use all Channels they legally can. Why go out of band?
I worked hard to have the chance to use those frequencies and your not going to use them and get away with it around me. I will tell you that for sure.
Truckers are getting caught weekly going into the 10 meter band and as well as other bands. I read about truckers getting caught monthly in the FCC reports. Most of the time the FCC just sends a letter to the carrier but I have seen individual O/O's cited too.

My advice, Stay in band and run all the illegal crap you think you need. I'm almost positive that no one will ever say a word to you.
If you get out of band and do it though all bets are off.
Most hams can identify a bootlegger in a matter of seconds.
Your just that easy to identify. I've seen many try to get away with but few succeed for any lenght of time.

I will be sending a link to the proper authorities about this website. This is a good place to watch. Try to give more information though from now on.
You have also just admitted to using illegal equipment.....duh
    FYI...It doesnt go unnoticed.

Oh man I love these threads. It never fails that as soon as someone mentions "export radio" or "10 meter" radio the ham nazi's turn up. If you want to run a 10 meter radio and use it as a cb do so.
