Are there any that are worth getting? Would like a portable unit to use between trucks and personal vehicle... thanks!

I have one of those little midlands hooked up to a firestick, It talks fairly well, much better than I expected.

Mine, is a little older than that, I'll get the model number off it tommorow and post it. I use it in my work truck daily and have talked up as far as 4 miles with it. Mine has an adapter that slides on and allows the use of an external antenna, which is what I use with an off the shelf 30 dollar mag mount.

I've heard they're good for a 2-3 mile range and anything other than that they're useless. But I'd like some confirmation on that....I'm considering seeing if i can buy one cheap for giggles and grins.

The antenna is the limiting problem at 11 meters now with a HT I have worked costa rica on 10m from my frount lawn ... if you need a handheld get one I have about 17 on them going from 11 to 3/4 meters .....
