That reminds me of the time a buddy bought a BC-610 transmitter and brought it home. His XYL was not at all keen on on his radio hobby, but she couldn't complain too much since he was fabulously wealthy and had a whole house full of radios. If he WANTED it, he BOUGHT it! Oh, she'd fuss, but.....................

Well, we brought that 610 home, and this was before he bought the Spanish mission style ranch house. We were struggling with it out of the pickup truck and got it up onto the front porch which was sort of "rickety". Lucy was raising all sorts of H### about "YOU'RE NOT BRINGING THAT MONSTROSITY IN THIS HOUSE..........BLAH, BLAH!!!!" :biggrin_25516: "Dink" wasn't paying any attention to her, only putting up minor resistance to her fussing. We got the thing up on the porch to the front door and ...........CRACK!!!!!!! The thing FELL thru the floor!!!!!!!!!:biggrin_2557::biggrin_2559: I thought she was going to KILL all of us! I considered RUNNING, but I didn't want to abandon Dink. There we were with a BC 610 sticking halfway out of the porch, and just how the h### were we gonna get that thing out of there? Long story short, Dink brought up a tractor and a boom from his shop. We chained it up and pulled it out, just barely clearing the porch roof. His wife never let him forget about that radio falling thru the floor to the day he died!!!!!! :biggrin_255: When he passed on, he had a basement FULL of assorted radios STACKED up in his office, the storage rooms, and the furnace room!

IMO you have already spent the money, if the swr has been set on it then use it as is.

Your radio's peak power is in the neighborhood of 50w.
There's a lot of variables, we don't know for sure what your swr is on the antena. What type of truck and where/how the antenna is mounted.
It's not uncommon during peak daytime when radio noise and traffic is high to only get out 2-3 miles. If your system is ok you should be able to reach 5-8 miles in early morning hours when the radio is very quiet.
