| CB in car...again I know this has been posted before, but I figured this would be a good time to update. I would like to put a CB in my car but I am having issues finding a good short antenna that I can mount permanently to my trunk. I was looking at the Wilson "Little Wil" antenna, but it is a magnetic mount. The rest of there base load antenna's go from 54 inch whips on up into the 60 range, that is just to tall for a car in my opinion. I can handle the 36 inch whip of the Little Wil. What have others done for CB antennas on trunk lids?? I see Wilson has a Short load adapter that replaces there long whips with a 3 foot long whip, maybe I should just go with the trunk lip mount version of the Wilson 1000 and use the short load adapter?? Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks! |

| A K40 with the trunk lip mount is a good compromise. The whip is about 48" (or exactly) and it is easily removable for car washes and such. It also performs pretty well.

| When I needed to put a magnetic on the car, I used a thin cardboard coaster (cut to fit) so the magnet wouldnt scrape the paint.

| What are you going to do with it? You just want to talk to drivers around you on the road, you don't need much. You want to play around town with folks, you'd better forget about discreet little pencils, as kd said; they don't work well at all.

| I have a Lil Wil magnet mount I use on the roof of our Murano. It feeds a little Cobra DX IV compact CB. I get truckers TX from about 5 miles away. D/k the TX distance for it though. Works just fine for travelling and getting highway info, etc. |

| Just to update this. I have everything I need for a radio installation in the car now, except the antenna. I was thinking of a Wilson 1000 with a roof mount. Now, I was going to put it in the middle of my trunk lid, but, will this be a good enough ground to the chassis? I do not want a magnet mount antenna, I want something permanent with a very clean installation look. I also thought about drilling a hole in the trunk and just running a Wilson 2000 through it, just like you would through a bracket. What scares me about that is, that is a big heavy antenna, going through a thin trunk lid, I do not want it to warp my trunk lid, or some punk to walk by and grab it and twist it or something, hence, wrecking my trunk lid. Any ideas?? |
