Ham Sticks or Screwdriver.

Have Np for VHF and UHF antenna but the HF one's are a Bit of a trouble for me.

Thanks VE9FC
The hamsticks will work *ok* for frequencies above 10 MHZ. In fact pretty well when you get up into 10 and 15 meters. If you like working 40 and 75 Meters (7.2 and 3.8, etc), you will be disappointed. This is where the screwdriver shines! They mostly blow away anything else save a dedicated "Bugcatcher"--and the Bugcatcher is a pain to change bands as you have to get out of the vehicle and change a tap.

OH! BTW! I am new here. Sorry I just jumped right in. I just saw your post and wanted to comment. Hello to the group.

Welcome, and I am a newbie myself. You might want to visit qrz.net and [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. . They have study materials and practice tests you can use to prepare for the real exam. Good luck!

Re: Question about Ham Radio

Hello, I'm new here. I would like to know all about HAM and trucking, mainly 144-148. Things I would like to know is types of annt., radio's, and the feq. that most drivers opp. on. I'm still studing for No Code, but I have a hand held, and would like to hear opp. in action. Don't worry, I don't use the PTT, I just monitor.
Thank you for your time.

Just add the required "w"'s at the front since this thing won't let me post the whole thing! The first one is dotnet. and the other one is dotorg.

VE9FC,

I am new to this site but have been looking in on several different trucking posts. I have seen little positive information on HF and being on the road. I am also a General class, but have not been bit by the HF bug. I thought about putting a 706MKIIG in a truck until I found many ham truckers not very positive on mobile HF. I will most likely use a 10 mtr rig to test the waters, with a VHF rig close by. We will have to see.

Hope this helps,

Ken, KD5AXG

Re: Question about Ham Radio

Ken KD5AXG, Welcome to the forum!

Gadfly, thanks for taking over for me in my absents <-----Spelling. I got sick and have been unemployed for months. Things are improving for me though and I am back online. I was really worried about missing stuff here. Thanks again!

KD5AXG, your call is familiar to me. Think I'll buzz over to the logbook and see if you're there.
