Cool Re: Question about Ham Radio

I don't do much HF as I have not found a suitable radio. I am 2m and 70cm base and mobile and am into skywarn here in N. Texas.

You weren't in my logbook. Your call is familiar to me though. May have bumped into you in Tejas or on QRZ?

Missed HamCom by a week. Missed Dayton by 1 day. Dayton next year if my finances improve.

I will most likely use a 10 mtr rig to test the waters, with a VHF rig close by. We will have to see.

Hope this helps,

I see *some* trucking hams with HF, but not many. However, it can be a rewarding pastime if the antenna is installed correctly. I have seen screwdrivers installed on tractor hoods with homebrew brackets and braces limited only in one's imagination. Or ball mounts on the door and a center brace on the mirror bar. I saw one truck with a HUGE 6" Texas Bugcatcher one time!

Re: Question about Ham Radio

it looks like this thread died but will try to bring it back a little on antennas to run on a truck. The web site i would look at is [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. this all about hf trucking and the guys that run 14.302.5 its like the channel 19 of ham radio only clean and no bear reports or none of that but if you want mobile operating advise or what works and what doesn't go there and look around. Every thing from home brew anttenas to the cadalac of them all the super band hopper. I personaly ran one of NO5E screwdrivers over 1,000,000 mile with out a problem and ran 300 watts thru it and made contacts in to Ar. razorback net. from all over the united states every night i checked in from a different location as far away as new york and seattle washington so mobile HF is a blast and if you want to bust a pile up you put mobile on the end of your call and they will trip over them selvesso go ahaed and give it a try and enjot mobile HF i loved it.

I would love to see some information on antennas to run on a truck. The problem I would see would be where to mount it. I just passed the Technician exam today, so I am ready to buy a unit and antenna. Thanks in advance fro your help!

I used to have a high sierra screwdriver antenna on my truck. The company freaked and made me remove it though. Had a lot of fun making contacts across the country. Never did get any international contacts though. I am working on something to get me a radio back in the truck soon
