Kickers

Anybody know a good company/website to find a good kicker for my CB?

I have a modified Cobra 25.

I like Texas Star units, use a 670 myself. The infamous "Sweet 16" is probably best known.

well, I guess my questioning is basically... How do these things work?

also, If it boosts your signal, then does it boost your output as well as what you recieve?? I just want to get some more distance out of my unit and hear further down the road. Right now, my cobra 25 is putting out some good wattage and I'm getting some decent distance as far as just listening to all the chatter, but I want to increase it. I'm not looking to cause intereference with anyone and i don'[t use roger beeps, or toys on my CB. just want to get out a little farther.

what is the best brand for a good price?

website to buy? blah blah blah.

More important would be how they DON'T work! My TS has a recieve button on it, which will amplify weak signals. Along with ground noise, wire interference, truck noise, etc - until you find that you have no more recieve than you did before. It can only help at night when the noise is down, but it really is just volume: it cannot make more signal than you are recieving.
I rarely use my footwarmer since it's not needed with a good radio. If the guy in the bushes can hear you but doesn't have the power to get back to you, it's a one way convo.
You said you're getting good output, but want a bit more in and out. Steel has always been known to recieve better, which is why you only see steel on taxi's, cop cars, Motorola company radios, etc.
The vast majority of the radios on the interstates you begin to hear when you get within two miles of the road. The need for a kicker is far overrated, unless you plan to shoot skip. We have 38 other channels to talk on, but most stay right there on ol' noisy, too lazy to turn the knob. Just take your contact up or down to a clear channel and you'll triple your range.

Thanks fox and tater...

yeah thats what i figured out the channels. I figured you would get more range on a different channel, that's why i don't get bothered if i'm not getting as much results i want on channel 19. sometimes i get some weak signals and if i turn my squelch farther to the left i can pick up the signal better, but its annoying because i have hear static with it. as far as strong signals, i'm good. and, i'm getting some good range. i was just wondering about them because i know somebody who has one that they are looking to get rid of.

as with pretty much everything you get what you pay for, good deals do come along. But just as many turn out to be for the worst.
Check that link out real good and get some fire on that wire !
Steer clear of the New Palomar and Messengers being sold on places like eBay and a select few CB websites, their knock off copies of the originals
and basically junk!

Ha! That's interesting. Back when I quit in '88 the Palomars were recently out and being considered junk stuff...evidently they've gone full circle?
A freind had a Messenger that would rock the world, but he had it input by a big Tram with a Silver Eagle desk choker. You can't beat the sound of tubes!

Hardly a Top-Dog but stout enough to keep the Labordoodles and other pound puppies up on the porch.
