Not sure why you couldn't get the Predator 10K to tune lower than 1.3...Most people don't have any problems getting one to tune flat...It could be that since you got it "Used", the antenna was probably tuned by whoever you got it from, and I'm sure he had already cut some off of the stinger tuning the thing. Then when you put it on your truck, it's possible the stinger was too short, to get it to tune in just right, on your truck...

I've been the Predator 10K Service Rep. now for over 5 years, and the main problem that I see with the 10K's, is guys getting the wrong lower shaft length, for where their wanting to mount the antenna. (usually they get one with a real short shaft, then can't get it to tune) That's why the Predator 10K's come with several different lower shaft lengths, and if your not sure on which one to get, you should ask the dealer or check with Kale (the builder) on which one would be best for you...Kales phone number is on every Predator 10K Antenna!

As for the Mr.Coily "Trucker" antenna...If you look at that antenna, compared to the 10K's, you will notice they look almost identical! (other than the fact Dan's are welded, and the Predators are screwed together)

Dan didn't start making his "Trucker" antenna with the round-tube coils, until the Predator 10K started getting popular...He used to use Flat Stock for all his coils...(which makes the antenna heavier among other things)

I'm not knocking Dans Antenna's...They are well built, and preform just as well as the Predators, if they are tuned properly. I have one of Dan's Dual Coil Mr. Coilys, I don't use it on my truck, but it does work well for stabbing trash down by the curb.

JJD: I have my first Predator 10K en route to me. I ordered it with the 27" shaft so the coil would be above the cab on my F150 with the antenna mounted on the front bed rail. Should I expect to have to cut quite(?) a bit of the stinger off?

Here are some pics of the mount with my current Wilson SW-2000 Trucker antenna mounted using a shorter 22" shaft:

Please let me know what you think about this install.

EDIT: My 10K just arrived. I'll install and check it this afternoon.

TIA,

Dan

Personally speaking. If you need better performance that a Predator has to offer. Your SWR is the least of your problems.

I'm sooooo tired of the "Me gotta look cool too" mentality of America today.

Thank you and it's quick too. Back in 2001, after modifying it myself, I ran several 12+ second 1/4 miles. My best pass was a 12.531@108.69 and I was 62 years old at the time. Drove it daily to work and back with the only change made for the track was replacing the stock, rear wheels and tires with 16" wheels shod with MT ET Streets.

Shouldn't need to trim much off of a Single Coil 10K using that 27" shaft, but you may need to cut some...Just start with cutting maybe a inch, then re-check the SWR...Take your time with it!
