I am running a heavily tuned and modified 4300 HP that is doing well over 100 watts and mine does get warm but not overly hot to the point of damaging the radio. I am not long winded though and don't key down for more then a few minutes at a time.

The only thing I will say about connex is that if you use a bracket, don't overly tighten the mounting knobs as it pulls of the sides of the chassis and will pull apart the solder connections and cause the speaker section to stop working, this includes the external speaker jack.

Overall their all good stable radios if tuned properly.
BUT ! for the money spent for one 4300/300,400
you can purchase a small two or four pill class b-box and a decent driver radio and have more watts and better stability/longevity for less money.

Well that is the thing. I have heard people say they can hear me well over 20 miles away clear as a bell but they can't get back to me because they have lesser equipment.

It also depends on the conditions. Skip was rolling a bit on Friday and I was talking to people in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and even someone in Texas from up here in north eastern North Dakota.

I perfer the bigger radios over a smaller radio and a box. Keeps the truck less cluttered and much easier to change over to another truck if need be for a day.

I have a 4600 Turbo also, one thing I can say is that sucker will talk. It definately gets hot if you talk a lot. The first couple of times mine heated up, I could smell the paint on the heat sink. It was hot enough you could barely touch it. Lately when I am running with a friend, I turn the power almost all the way down. That seems to help some while ratchetjawing but the heatsink still gets hot. I have the power and ground wires connected directly to the batterys and I have some kind of minor alternator whine I can't figure out, especially at an idle. The little fan inside it is getting noisy too. I think Connex makes a good durable radio, I have owned a few of them. Another thing I like is they are kind of plain looking. It makes me feel like its not as likely for a crackhead to bust my window out and steal it compared to a big linear hanging out for anyone to see. I like the less cluttered look too. The blue lights are too bright at night for my taste so I cut a little square of window tint for the channel indicator and that knocked the problem down a lot. I am either going to put some tint on the meter lens too or have my cb doctor friend that sold me the radio disconnect the meter light.

I heard Connex discontinued the 4300/400 already. Any one know if there is truth to this?

I was thinking about purchasing this unit, but like everyone else (ok not everyone)) I want BIIIIIG... LoL

    Anyone got any suggestions??

    Thanks.

Oh.. Still looking for a Trustworthy CB Shop.. got any hints there too?

    Thanks

Yes they discontinued that model, there are prolly still a few floating around but will likely be hard to find.

None of the "top" on-line vendors have any in stock

Couldn't he just put a resistor in the feed to the LED's to turn down the brightness?
