Johnsons Corner guys are great. I'm the UPS driver for them and they are good at what they do and are very fair. A lot of our feeder drivers use them to repair their radios

Most of the time they will state outright they don't know what an Anode is and sometimes they will try to BS me and say it is an Audio Chip, Regulator, eyt.

An Anode is part of a Diode. It is one half of the junction that forms the Diode. The other half is called a Cathode. This is basic electronics and many schoolkids know what an Anode is. The CB Shop certainly should.

I'll ask for an explanation of Capacitive Skin Effect. This is RF Theory and every Radio SHop has to know this.
You might get some people who would just say "Well, if you know all of this, then why don't you just fix it yourself, wiseguy?"

I do do my own work. I'll do radios for people I know as well.

Thumbs up Re: Two great CB shops

Well I have been through a few radios a time or two in my day. I just recently upgraded from a Cobra GTL 148 to a Connex 4600 Turbo. I purchase this radio in San Antonio at Wam Comm . Fair price for the radio aswell . Well I had some issues with the radio at first killing my tv and burned it up so I took it in to have it looked at when I was in West Memphis and no offense the guy is great about tuning radios but turn my settings down . This is the guy at the Petro . Now when I was on my way back home stop by a shop off of 35 South in Texas at Exit 275 this shop has taken care of my 148 when a wire came loose on the board he found the problem fairly fast and fixed it and only charged me $7 for the repair . Then when I had my Connex 4600 tune by him he took the dead key back up to 105 watts on the high side and then it was dead key on the low side 22 watts . Told me this was great for this radio . I also use a guy in Missouri City down near Houston Texas. Charlies Airwaves. Did not know this guy was still around . But did some research and found out he was. He built my dad radios back in the days .

You should find one shop that you trust and stick with it. With a 105W carrier your radio is not long for this world. Plan on buying some finals in the near future.

I discussed the legality of your radio in your other post. Check the FCC's enforcement letters at fcc.gov. Truck drivers get busted all the time.

Re: Two great CB shops

Don't get me wrong, BUT most CB Shops are hack shops. They do half a job and charge a double price.
But what are you suppose to do when out on the road? Thing's happen radio's break.

Re: Two great CB shops

Big Rig CB are a couple good guys. They are at the Husky at exit 195 on 401 in London Ontario. Little trailer at the back of the parking lot. Reasonable rates and they usually drop what they are doing to help you out when you drop in.

Re: Two great CB shops

Did I say "Hundreds"? An exageration of course. A few dozen shops have been tested by me.

I have no knowledge of this one in Canada.

Re: Two great CB shops

When I used to run west I would stop and get my radio worked on if need be at Mavericks just east of Moriartiy, NM. I believe it was at the 103 exit somewhere around their. It was next to the cafe. It was a family run place and good people. Last time I was out that way in 2001, they had hired a couple of techs and Maverick opened a strip joint up on the property. He always did me a good job and was always busy everytime I would stop. I don't know if their still around. Alot of union drivers would be in their getting their boxes worked on.

I live in Oklahoma and have been to most all the CB shops in the state and think they are a joke, like the one by the TA and behind the Motel at the 142 exit (Council Rd) in Oklahoma City. Filthy shop and the guy was smoking a cigarette while working on my radio and let the ashes drop in my radio.
